This gesture comes from ancient China. It is a gesture of greeting, just like it is nice to see you. But today we don't see it often.

Looking at the picture, these days we'd probably interpret the gesture as "I'm getting a message on my i-Phone. I need to concentrate. Please don't disturb me!"

@hoong143 Different culture will have different feelings. Such as kissing the cheeks seem to be a common behavior in some countries, whereas this is quite strange here, especially in public.

That's sad. Maybe people are adopting the modern world but sometimes it is still good to keep traditions. And that gesture is lovely and it shows more respect for me. I like to be greeted that way and I want to greet you in that way too.
