Weekend Plans

My weekend started Thursday, as my husband was off. We decided to start by getting groceries and plan to sweep the entire garage or at least what we can reach, as there are shingle pieces everywhere. I'm suggesting when moving into a house that if the inspector says you will need a new roof within two years get it before moving in. My house smells like roof shingles and my air cleaners are on high. If anyone has suggestions to get the odor out let me know, as willing to try anything. Its cold outside, so leaving the windows open 24 hours might not be a great idea; however, I have left the garage door open for quite a few hours while working in my front yard. The odor is strong and every time I move something another roof shingle piece is in front of me. I didn't know there would be a problem getting a new roof, as we have always had a patch put on when we had roof problems. My husbands idea of not going into the garage at all isn't a sound idea, as my largest freezer is in there. I just hope everything in that freezer won't smell like the roof. Any ideas, as I hope the smell isn't here for years.

oh dear, not a good time'f year to get a new roof laid. i hope that when such does happen 'n those shingles're no longer'n yer garage that whome'er puts 'em atop uses a tar sealer with each'n e'ery shingle. they'll not adhere proper with the cooler weather 'n jest one wind storm could mean yet 'nother replacement :( 's fer the odor? charcoal helps to absorb the odor somewhat. sadly i think yer gonna be smellin' that 'til they're where they belong.

I will give charcoal a try in the garage, as its the worst. The inside of my house is better, as it no longer has a scent. The garage had a lot of damage, as there was a big hole in the roof. I'm not sure if the smell is the treatment on the wood, tar sealer or both, as most of the wood was replaced. Some of the wood had bug damage. We knew from the inspection there was damage and paid a lot less than other people on this street. The plumbing and roof sure were expensive! Thanks for posting and the suggestion.
