Diary Wednesday 2nd November 2016 Good progress today as the publicity posters and announcements of my pending talk on local pub signs were finally started up. The rest of the day just involved job search activity. Thursday 3rd November 2016 More job club activity, with exercises in filling in psychometric application form questionnaires correctly. This backfired spectacularly as no one could agree which answers were correct, proving the point I made from the start of the exercise that such tests are arbitrary and meaningless. Publicity for my talk is now available with some excellent posters and a mention on the hosting community centre’s web site too. Friday 4th November 2016 Welfare hearing day, and though much of went smoothly my advisor was confused when I showed her the poster for my talk on the 18th November thinking it will show that I am promoting my talents. The centre letting me present my paper on pub signs charges regular attendees £3 after a free first visit. I won’t be charged with speaking. The money raised goes to the centre’s community projects but my advisor was convinced that it was my appearance fees (I have no such fees). I had a hard time convincing her that my talk is not a profit making event (which would a/. slash my benefits b/. get me charged with offences of concealing my true earnings). My advisor then insisted that I apply for some civil service work that amounts to working in welfare itself. I had no option but to complete a hideously long application form for this online, though I expect the job’s demands are outside my experience range. On my way home I did some shopping and even bought myself a hot water bottle as the nights are getting very cold now. It made me feel very old having one, but I look forward to using it. That was a bit awkward about your adviser thinking you were earning money from your talk. Regarding it getting colder - I've actually bought an electric blanket, I've never had one before.

@arthurchappell @jaboUK Electric blankets are SOOO nice. Turn it on before you retire and you can slip into a lovely warm bed and it is just Heaven. :)

Have you thought of recording your talk(s), uploading them to YouTube and monetising them? Okay, I'm not sure how that would affect your benefits, but it might not affect them at all until you withdraw the money.

@egdcltd you do need lots of hits and though a few videos go viral on Youtube most don't

@arthurchappell Even with ones that don't go viral, you can still get a bit of regular income. I make a bit over $60 a year from YouTube (which is worth more than it used to be!). I used to have a video that made $10-15 a month but I told a friend about it and he made a better one. Which I did tell him he could do.

@egdcltd I have no idea what mine earns - hard to see what they pay per view or what the thresholds are

Hot water bottles are great. So are wheat bags which can be heated in the microwave.

@arthurchappell Some are square but others are shaped to fit nicely round an aching neck.
