Is it true that social media such as Facebook, Twitter can cause depression? I asked some of my friends and surprisingly, some find Facebook annoying, unlike before. Some people tend to use Facebook to express anger and rant towards other. And unintentionally, these kind of posts tend to make other people sad as well. Do you think social media can cause depression? Please share your ideas.

Very true . Others would rant at Facebook and fish out allies . But then , bashers would also come out and they exchange words for everyone to see . So disgraceful act .

For me it still depends on how you accept the situation whether you sympathize or just let it passed by. Sympathize, because you can relate on her/his post. Just ignore or passed by, yes you have read the post but you don't have to be deeply serious about.

good topic of conversation. It could definitely impact people....that is why many people get tired of watching the news...because it is depressing most of the time. I don't mind people sharing thoughts...but when something is overdone..like too many selfies...too many pictures of what they ate....the travel crazy that is on these days...that sometimes gets on my nerves and makes me not want to go there. ..too much unnecessary information coming from one person. You know what i mean?

I guess it boils down to the type of friends you have on fb. Some post can make me happy and also angry.

Facebook can worsen a depression that is already being felt or suffered by the person. I see a lot of depressing and enviable posts on Facebook almost everyday, but it does not affect me because I wouldn't let it to. People get affected by social media if they let it. Sometimes it is better if information being shared on Facebook will be limited.

Social media may well exacerbate depression but I doubt it'd cause it. After all, we have the choice not to be on social media.

It can cause bullying and spreading of rumors about people which lead into depression. On the other hand it can be good when you use it right for the right purpose.

Yes, I agree. It probably depends on how to person will use it and how other people will perceive anything in their newsfeeds.
