What If.....???

What if you lost your short term memory, but remembered things that happened in the past only? Yeah, I know some times I forget for a bit things I was doing or going to say/write, but then something tricks my trigger and I remember. I watched "50 First Dates" with Adam Sandler the other day and wondered if I would want my loved ones to live their lives for me, as if each day was the last day that I remembered? I mean if I had an accident that the only thing I remembered was the day of the accident, I don't think I would want my family to every day react that day. I would want my loved ones to live in the present not the past for me!! ~Peace~ photo courtesy of pixabay

i saw that movie and wondered the same thing....though i could not come to a conclusion of what i would want my family to do. The movie provides a solution...but the surprise every morning might get too much someday.

I would be glad for what I had. If the past memories were all I had I would try to work with it as best I could. Memory is definitely something to be glad to have although mine isn't that great.

I think my children are more frustrated with my short term memory loss than I am. I wish they would just use the kitchen calendar for what it is intended instead of expecting me to remember what their work schedule is 20 minutes after they told me. My daughter told me last night her schedule for this week. I THINK she said she is working today (well, yeah, that's right), and she is off Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. But not sure. And, that could also change. My kids (20 and 23) are always making fun of my bad memory. I feel bad enough about it without them taking digs at me.

I saw that movie too. I would not want to have to learn about my life every day through a movie.

It must be really awful to have a memory that cannot cope with the present. It would be harder if the memories of the past were not good. I would hope it never happens to any of us.

One of my former co workers had a brain bleed and they operated on her and were able to save her but one of the results was that she has no short term memory. She is now on disability because she could never come back to work because of it. It is just terrible for her and she was a long time accepting that was the way her life would be from now on. She was 50 when it happened so she could have a long life a head of her like that. She remembers thing from the past but she can't remember the present. She will turn on the oven and put something in and forget she was cooking. She tells us the same things over and over again when she comes in to visit because she doesn't remember that she already told us. She will call somebody on the phone and talk to them then she hangs up she will call them back 10 mins. later because she doesn't remember she already called. It is really sad to see her that way.
