Do They Ask For An Identification Card ?

Here in our province in the Philippines , we are being asked for a valid identification card , when we give our credit card to pay purchases at the malls .
I am happy that it is that way . A salesgirl I talked to about it, said that some credit cardholders gets angry . And I told her , "why would they be angry when it’s for their protection ? “Maybe she’s not the owner of the credit card ,” I said /
At least , the card holders will not be worried when their credit card gets lost since no one can just present them for payment because they don’t have a valid ID to present .
What about you guys who have credit cards , do the sales clerk asks for a valid ID ?
Would you get angry too if ever , you would be asked for a valid ID for the credit card?
Though , at restaurants , they don’t ask for an ID . Well, I understand that it’s out of courtesy to the diners .

Our credit cards were very secure at one time because we had to either sign our name, which is compared with the example on the card, or enter a 4 digit PIN into the machine. Now credit cards can be used without signature or PIN for amounts up to £30.
This is an insane idea because if you drop your credit card someone can easily visit 10 shops in the Mall and accrue £300. Suddenly a credit card is very insecure.

Wow, thatis indeed a secure way to validate .
I certainly would like that it be adapted here because of the many incidences of unauthorized purchases .
Sad , though that now they don't do that there . The cards can now just be easily used when picked up by anybody .

maybe because of incidences of unauthorized purchases after bags and wallets were stolen.

@SIMPLYD No, they don't ask for ID here. In fact if one credit card does not work, they would say . . "Got another one? Try it!"

Yes, that happens indeed when your credit card seems not working , i experienced that actually . But i don't have another one so i paid thru my debit card , good thing it has money still.
So , they don't ask an ID there . Therefore when your credit card gets lost , immediately call their hotline . But the picker would instantly use it though before the report is enacted .

I never get asked here. I used to have a debit card with a picture ID on it, but they never even looked and yeah I've been robbed of money before because of this. If they'd just seen the picture, they would have realized instantly that the person holding the card was not me.

@SIMPLYD They gave all the money back as well as locked the card so it couldn't be used anymore and gave me a new one. After that I learned to keep my purse locked up while I'm working.

A debit card have a PIN before it could be validated as purchase . No need for an ID actually on debit card , only for the credit card because it doesn't require a PIN .
So you have experienced being robbed through it . So , what happened , did the bank didn't refund you for the unauthorized usage of your debit card?

I depends. When they use the old credit card machines (I don´t know the name) they ask for identification. But the new ones have a place where we insert a chip. And there we don´t need a thing.

@SIMPLYD You have to add your pin number besides the chip.

I do have a credit card. Also your suppose to always ask for ID when it comes to a credit card because anyone can steal a credit card but always anyone can open one under you with your own idifcation. A lot of plays don't ask bcause spouses cons use you credit card or you go can give permission to someone.

@SIMPLYD they don't check names. When I worked retail people never checked. People never check mine I hand mine off all of the time to my husband or his to me. By law your suppose to but people don't. As long as you look over 18 nobody cares.

i've always found't strange that here'n the u.s. ya gotta provide a valid i.d. to pay with a check, but nobody blinks'n eye if'n ya use plastic. i think all places should do such, but realize few'll take the time. e'en dinin' out such ought to be required.

Yes, in here too , when you pay with a check or even encash a check at the bank they ask for a valid ID . That's a standard operating procedure of the bank , for the protection of the issuer and the payee .
But with the credit card , i get anxious when they don't ask for a valid ID . What if it is picked up by others ?

@crazyhorseladycx It should be that the credit card company , should tell them that if a fraudulent purchase was made through them , they should be held liable for it because they don't do anything to stop it from happening .

I rarely get asked for ID when I use my credit cards. It's annoying, but it's for our protection. It would probably bother me a lot if I got asked for ID every time I used my credit card.

@SIMPLYD I know it's for our own good, but that doesn't mean I have to like it! Haha
Just like these new chips that they put in our credit and debit cards now...they take soooooo long to process when you insert them into the new chip readers. Ugh!

@moffittjc Luckily my debit card doesn't take that long . We just have to put in our PIN in their card terminal.

I have a credit card and I prefer to be asked with proper validation. However, some malls here in metro manila do not require this. They just swipe the card assuming it is mine.

Though not all establishments here do that . That's why when a store doesn't ask for an ID when i use my credit card i give them my valid ID and tell them to always ask for an ID for the cardholders' protection . But they would say some though gets annoyed when asked for an ID .
Bad atiitude . It's for their own protection after all .

Some would ask but mostly they don't even bother. They just swiped away. Maybe it's the money coming in they're interested at and not the protection of the cardholder.

Or it could be also that the salesgirls in store weren't properly oriented .
Though , at restaurants they really don't ask . Maybe it's out of respect to the diner . So anybody can eat at restaurants using others' card , which can be scary for the real cardholders.

It is good to ask for ID for credit card and debit purchases. Maybe they are to lazy to look in their wallet to pull out the ID when ask to.
