November 8 - Events

Wikipedia has a list of events, births and deaths for today-- November 8. November 8 is the 312th day of the year (313th in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar. There are 53 days remaining until the end of the year. This date is slightly more likely to fall on a Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday (58 in 400 years each) than on Friday or Saturday (57), and slightly less likely to occur on a Monday or Wednesday. The very first on the list for events was the Battle of Andrassos: Byzantines under Leo Phokas the Younger score a crushing victory over the Hamdanid Emir of Aleppo, Sayf al-Dawla. That was on the year 960. 1056 years ago! And of course, one of the most saddest event that happened last November 8, 2013 when Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines. Typhoon Yolanda, one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded, strikes the Visayas region of the Philippines; the storm left at least 6,340 people dead with over 1,000 still missing, and caused $2.86 billion (2013 USD) in damage. I lost 2 relatives during that tragic storm. And today, it's Election Day in United States. It has been a circus, crucial, and controversial... Americans will wake up to a new President tomorrow.

It can be interesting reading what happened on certain days. But today the election is overshadowing everything else.
