Can we stop the hatred now?

The election is over. I had so hoped that once this horrendous election came to a close, things would calm down a bit. Humanity would try and make a comeback. Sadly, things seem to be getting worse. Hatred, intolerance and ridicule are around every corner, in almost every voiced and printed word. For the record, I did not vote. Before you blast me, it was my choice as an American to exercise my right not to vote, so let’s leave it there. For those of you devastated by the election results, I understand. For those of you fearing the apocalypse, I understand. For those of you questioning the sanity, judgment, intelligence and decency of those who did support Trump, I disagree. Allow me the following thoughts. I know many wonderful people who did not vote for Hillary Clinton and who actually did vote for Donald Trump. They really aren’t scary or stupid or depraved or idiotic or deplorable. They are some of the nicest, most intelligent, hard-working, ethical, honest, charitable people I know, without an ounce of racism, misogyny, bigotry, xenophobia, homophobia, sexism or hatred in their hearts. They are people who would gladly open their door to a stray cat, a needy child, a person with a skin color or opinion different than their own. They are people who would unconditionally have your back, would not question your voting choices, would not ridicule rather than respect you. They are people I am proud to have in my life. Please, let’s all make an effort to exchange our hatred, our disappointment, our rage and anger for something more positive. Whether we like it or not, we’re all in this together. Image: Pixabay.com

I was taught...even if you have trouble respecting the person. We must respect the office.

I agree totally. Unfortunately, that might not happen this time.

I've always agreed with that but this time we have a person about to take the office that doesn't respect it. This is a whole new world and I'm so afraid people will "normalize" it.

I'm afraid you are right. I'm wondering if time will ever be able to heal, maybe for some it will.

True. While time is ticking, President-elect is now running busy, 100%-- working for America's economic prosperity. His 20 million Tweeter followers love his"press-tweets" unfiltered updates. Btw, he's not accepting President's salary. Looks very exciting world to majority of us.:-)

I don't think the hatred will ever end now that it's been unleashed. Trump opened a Pandora's Box that we may never be able to close. He won't even acknowledge that he bears some of the blame for the divisiveness of our country and he's currently on a "Thank You" or "Victory" tour of the states he won, ignoring those in which he lost the popular vote. Because of him I fear women's issues and race relations will be taken back to the Mad Men era and many of the rights so many have fought for for so many years will be lost. When the hatred starts in kindergarten you know it's never going to end.

@LindaCPearson I'm sorry, we'll have to agree to disagree on this. Like I said, Donald unleashed the hatred, he validated it, made it "ok" to be "politically incorrect", in his case meaning acceptable to be insulting and to use racial and sexist slurs and taunts in day to day conversation. I think it's very unfair to say "most" liberals and protestors are "pretty disgusting". I've never said MOST of Donald's blind followers are disgusting but how can anyone deny that SOME of them are? I mean, who could possible defend or justify people wearing t-shirts saying things like "I Wish Hillary Married O.J." or yelling "Kill the (b-word)"?

@anniepa I think there are a fair amount of insults being hurled on both sides. It can't get more insulting than being called "deplorable" or Trump being compared to Hitler, which is an absolutely vile thing to even suggest.

@anniepa I don't really think Trump had much of anything to do with this, other than running and then winning. The angry liberals and protestors have been looking for a reason, a scapegoat, for years and years, to justify their own hatred and bigotry. Most of them are pretty disgusting and much more intolerant of others' beliefs than those who voted Trump in.

The hate will bring nothing good and lead nowhere. Let's hope that in a few days people will understand and try to get together to do the best they can to do something for a better world.

I really appreciate your thoughts but from what I'm seeing and hearing, I don't think it is going to happen. I also posted this article on Facebook and the reaction I'm getting is extremely disheartening.

I guess the Trump supporters better get busy and learn how to speak Russian, which I've heard is a very difficult language to learn. The rest of us will likely have to learn to simply not speak because our rights are definitely about to be taken from us.

"Move on" and let my granddaughter go through life believing she should not only accept but EXPECT to be groped because "boys will be boys"? Or "move on" and let my grandson come to believe that since the man who became President behaves that way it must be alright? "Move on" and let BOTH of them decide their upbringing to be against racism and bigotry was all just a bunch of politically correct nonsense and that it's now perfectly fine to say whatever hurtful and hateful things they can think of?

@CoolPeace I think with his many ties to many foreign countries, friends and foes, he's likely already committed what would be considered "impeachable offenses" if he were a Democrat but with the majorities in both the House and the Senate I fear he could commit rape and murder and still not be touched.

I desire it all to be about America, not one man. If the future is successful then cheer America. American you did it not one man. If the future is not successful address the issues and forget the name that people have been traumatized with?

Kudos and cheers to you, @LindaCPearson for this call for change of hearts! Bless your heart and all America. My US relatives and friends are God-loving-America-loving people, they voted for Donald Trump.
