Half day of cyber school followed by bowling

Yesterday was a half day of cyber school for my son and no school for my daughter. My son did not have any interactive online classes so the day was much shorter. At 9 am we started doing the lessons for the day which were spelling, writing skills, vocab, literature, handwriting, math, art and gym. Even with a half hour break for lunch we were finished by 1:20. My daughter went with my sister and her kids to Chuck E Cheese and had a sleepover. My son and I went bowling. He wanted to compete with me and see who could bowl a higher score. I tried on four pairs of bowling shoes and none fit. The only sizes they had were 5/6 and 7/8. I need the size between. One was too tight and one was falling off my feet. I asked if I could just bowl without shoes but they said no so I just didn't bowl. My son bowled a 77 the first game and an 80 the second (with use of bumpers). My daughter does not have a winter coat as she has grown so much. We stopped at Kmart and the only one they had thick enough she would like was $99 and that is too much for me to pay. We went to walmart and I found her one for $19.96. I got a few quick groceries as well while we were there.

Glad you found a coat at Walmart. That is a reasonable price. $99 is a lot to pay for a winter coat. I need on this year too and I just can't get over the prices they want for a winter coat. I just can't justify paying that much money for something I wear only a few months. I am hoping to find a good sale somewhere. I may have to wait until after Christmas when they start reducing things.

For years I never had a winter coat. I just layed on hoody after hoody anc jacket. My mother bought me some on sale as a gift so that is what I wear now. The $20 ones at Walmart are decent.

@shaggin That is what I wear now. A hoodie and a lighter jacket over it. It works for now but it won't when it gets colder and starts snowing!

@Happy2BeMe My son and I had to read a story for school it was nonfiction about blizzards. They said that dressing in layers instead of one big bulky coat helps keep us warmer so I guess we had things right all along.

That was a great price for a coat, Glad you found one. I was going to suggest the charity shops, I love looking and occasionally buy there myself...

I buy a lot at thrift shops but a coat I probably wouldn't look for there. So many out of style ones from the 80s seem to be all I see of coats being given away haha

@PainsOnSlate That is how I was as well. For back to school shopping I would have my mother take me to the Salvation Army. I loved the unique shirts I would find there. It was always exciting for me to see what I could find. I take my kids to the Goodwill to shop sometimes I love it there.

@shaggin when my son was in high school that is all he would wear, he shopped at Charity shops and dragged me with him. A $8 coat was great to him because he liked the look of old styles but insisted on expensive running shoes.

Wow your son did good on his bowling games. Sorry to hear that you could not wear their shoes have you thought of buying your own so you have them and don't run into this problem again. 99.00 at kmart is to much for a coat glad you went to Walmart and got one a lot cheaper.

I used to bowl with my parents a lot when we were young so I had my own shoes at the time. That was about 20 years ago. My kids and I rarely go out bowling so I don't want to waste money buying shoes I will only wear likely once a year. It is something I was considering though.

That's a big difference in the price of coats. It was a pity you weren't able to bowl with your son.

Since I didn't get to bowl I used the money I would have spent on myself bowling a game and let him bowl an extra game.

What a nice family routine. I went bowling many times and they also did not allow us to bowl barefoot. Some kind of safety precaution. How old is your son? Happy he enjoyed bowling...i would have like to join in that game. I have a very strong competitive streak but not pushy. Sounds like a very fruitful day.

I assumed it was a safety issue as well so I did not get mad they wouldn't let me bowl without bowling shoes on but I was disappointed at not being able to bowl when my son wanted me to. They need to buy more shoes or people to rent.

@Gita17112016 They have to be shoes specific to bowling. If I bowled often then I would buy my own pair that fit wet but I do not bowl more then a few times a year if that!

@shaggin Or you could just keep an extra pair in your car. Do they allow shoes from outside..or a particular type of shoes? I could just imagine how disappointed you were!
