Sometimes plans change for a reason!

My nephew is such a joy in my life. Since my husband passed away, my nephew has been trying his best to do things for me, to keep me laughing and to know I'm not alone. And it's really been working. When he had asked if he could come here for Thanksgiving and spend the day with me, I was so happy. In trying to keep a lot of our old traditions alive, I went a little overboard with groceries, and now, unfortunately, I'm very low on money until my next check comes in. So, that wouldn't even be much of a problem (I'm good at living on small bits of money) except that my nephew invited me on a trip on Sunday. You see, he graduated from Perkins School for the Blind (Helen Keller's school), and he goes up there every year at this time for their annual Christmas Concert. I was really excited about going. However, I knew I was going to need money to stop for food along the way, and that had me a little worried. Tonight he called me to say that the driver's husband is now coming on the trip, so there's no room for me in the van. I silently breathed a sigh of relief for the money, but am disappointed that I will miss the concert. Maybe I can go next year. Thankfully, the library is delivering new books to me on Friday, so I will have lots of books to keep me company during the weekend. I really won't mind missing the trip. I know my nephew's heart is in the right place and he was broken hearted about having to give me the news. But I told him it's all good and I'll be fine. That makes life so much easier for him, so he's not caught in the middle of anything. Hope you all have things to do this weekend so I'll have a lot to read about! lol -Claudia-

I'm sorry you're unable to go, but glad it worked out the way it did money wise. My weekend is highlighted by a book signing tomorrow. I'm hoping I can sell a few books.

Isn't it wonderful how things work out like that sometimes?

It was a real blessing in disguise. I really wanted to go but I knew my bank account would feel the pinch very badly, so it's so much better this way. I can easily get to most places in my own state on my own, but Massachusetts is a whole other story. I need rides to get up there. So hopefully next year I can go with him.

Things do have a way of working out and seems this time a loss was a bit of a gain.

It's interesting to see how all the little worrisome details of life work out in the end. Look in the paper, there are many concerts at local churches this weekend, most are free. Go alone and just drink in the music. That's what I'm doing!

Sometimes it is a very delicate balancing act between money and things we'd like to do.

Unfortunately, that's become very true. I'm going to pinch pennies for a few months until I can save up a bit to have a cushion for things like this.

What a wonderful nephew you have. I hope he is not feeling too upset about having to tell you you can't go to the concert.
