Can you eat the raw onions?

I watched a movie called Holes. In one scene Stanley and his friend Hector ate the raw onions. Although at that time they were thirsty and hungry, but I still wonder whether the raw onions are edible. As they are so spicy. But it can also be a diet habit. Here we don't eat vegetables without cooking.

Yes people put raw onions on sandwiches, hamburgers and even as toppings for pizza, But it's not fun to eat the whole raw onions but only a part of it.

White onions are eaten raw.. I love it especially if it is mixed in salads or beefsteaks or sandwiches.

@youless The purple onions are the ones used in cooking. It is usually one of the spices. the white onions are used in salads, sandwiches or used as toppings in some food.it has a sweet taste.

We eat raw onions coupled with raw tomatoes,cucumber, raw carrots and raw radish in Salad before our meals or along with our meals. We do not find onions spicy.

Of course the raw onions are edible and some varieties are not spicy at all. We have a special variety of red onions in Italy that are delicious raw added to salads.

My mom ever cooked the onions for a short time and therefore they were not raw. I found that they tasted spicy. Since that, I always cooked the onions enough so that they would taste sweet. And this is why I have never thought that people will eat the raw onions

I just thought it was from the movie since the people were too starving at that time.

@youless In every country I visited, I have seen people eating raw onions. In the United States they add raw onions to their sandwiches, in Argentina they make a salad with sliced oranges and onions. In Italy and France we add raw onion (tiny sliced) to the salads.

I love Holes, it is one of my favorite movies! haha! I eat a lot of raw vegetables. I don't really like onions but onions are normally placed on something raw or in salads raw.

@DesirousDreamer Perhaps you can try the carrot juice. It tastes well. In the past I tried it and it was great. Then the result was I went to buy a juicer to make the carrot juice at home

Yes, I am from China as you can see from my status. This movie is about a bad luck boy who dug the treasure at the end. At the beginning it seemed to be a little boring, but then I found it interesting.
