Sense of Smell

Recently, I wrote about the “five senses” and which one would be the easiest one to lose. A couple people said “the sense of smell.” So, I was just thinking about that. What is your favorite AROMA? Do you like the smell of freshly baked bread, new leather, coffee brewing, your favorite cologne, fresh cut flowers?? I like the smell of brownies baking or pumpkin pie. I just made four pumpkin pies last week. They were sooooo good. I have a favorite perfume also that I like, but don’t wear it very often because some of my friends have allergies. When I was young, I loved my Aunt Alice’s perfume. It was “Cotillion.” Even now, whenever I smell it, I think of her. Sometimes I see it in a department store and use the tester, just so I can remind myself of her and the pleasant times we shared when I was young. And my DAD wore “Old Spice” after shave lotion and I think of him the same way, when I have an opportunity to take a whiff of that. Sense of smell might be the easiest to live without, but it’s still important, when you think about it.

Freshly baked bread is one of the best smells for me and you're right. Certain smells certainly invoke particular people or occasions.

Yes, I love going into a bakery. Smells so good. I bake my own bread too, and I make pepperoni rolls all the time. Fresh rolls stuffed with pepperoni. They are a West Virginia treat these days. They used to be for coal miners to take in their lunch buckets into the coal mines. They required no refrigeration. Have you ever eaten a pepperoni roll? Most people have never heard of them.

@IreneVincent I've certainly eaten pepperoni. But perhaps not in a roll.

Tough one. Mom's fresh baked chocolate chip cookies.

Sounds good to me. Just about any baked goods smell wonderful, don't they? So, we can appreciate that sense of smell quite a bit.

I am SURE you do. You've probably also lost your sense of taste along with it. I have lost much of my sense of taste too.

Fresh plastic? Now that's different. I like the smell AFTER it rains. To each his own, I guess.
