About 6p. this evening a friend of my grandson's came over. He is a computer whiz. My grandson's computer was bogged down. He looked at it and it had viruses. Took care of it. Then he came in and wanted to look at mine. I told him about the problem I had with an infection where it hides as a normal file and the anti virus won't pick it up.Went through files and got rid of bad ones . He took the anti virus I had on here off and put on Avast. Did a 'boot scan' and now it is running much faster. Then he got into my daughters and is running a boot scan on it now. So nice to have a cleaned computer with no bugs.

I have been using Avast for many years now. Not only is it a free program, but one of the more reliable antivirus systems. Personally, if my computer develops several issues I prefer to entirely clean the hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

@celticeagle Oh, poor little viruses being bullied by that cruel Avast.

I like that Avast keeps up on the bugs and slashes them. The whiz may have to do just that for my daughter's computer. It is pretty much a lost cause. We will see what he thinks today.

@celticeagle That is because we get used to things and they seem normal until someone 'fixes' it and it goes faster.

Computer whizz kids are worth their weight in gold, aren't they? I have one as a friend and I honestly don't know what I'd do without him. I'm clueless myself.

It sure does make all of the difference. If we are going to use the PC so much we really need to learn how to keep it cleaned up and working.

Very fortunate for us. And it isn't like we ask him to check our computers. He just comes over and takes it upon himself.
