They Say Imitation Is The Best Form Of Flattery

I just had to write this one because I find it pretty neat for some reason. Buux Frederickson and Bayce Armstrong are in a band called "BUUX FREDERIKSEN AND THE BANGSA"
I learned about them from Rancid annoucing an upcoming Festival. Someone in the comments section showed a video of a band and basically called them Rancid of Indonesia. Pretty much because they sound a lot like Rancid. Also, could you tell by the names? Rancid's two main singers are Lars Frederickson and Tim Armstrong.
Over here in the US, especially in punk circles, you do not really want to be considered a copy of another band. Whether you wrote the songs or not. Kind of considered making it off the backs of others. Granted, many still do it, but eventully they are going to have to come up with their own sound or get labled, even though punk rock says it hates labels.
Anyway, I kind of find this to be innocent because who knew they liked punk rock in Indonesia? It is like teenagers starting their own band, but only imitating their favorite bands at first until they can get good enought to find their own sound. I have to say they are pretty good. The one guy kind of does sound like Tim Armstrong.
Lars and Tim like to show off their PUNX knuckle tattoos in their videos and this band imitates that. They also show off their Roots Radicals tattoo. Hey, if this gets them inspired to make their own music. I am all for it.

Goth bands are pretty bad about sounding like other bands. Give the people what they want, I guess.

I guess if it is working for them, but most musicians eventually want to sound like themselves and not someone else.

I also notice countries over in that area really do like to impersonate American music in general.

@crossbones27 - I think the record companies push them in that direction a lot of the time.

That is another reason that I find it neat because it may be catching on in a new place and believe it or not punk teaches youngsters how the world really works. How to form their own ideas and how they can improve their own lives.
Maybe they will get famous in indonesia because was actually watching another video of them actually doing a cover of Rancid and all the fans looked like they were teenagers 13-18 and that is the best fans to get if you are a young band yourself to be around for a long time. I was 15 when I first listened - heard Rancid and now I am 40. Seemed to work well for them.

@crossbones27 A young base of fan is important to start, they grow up with them, they learn to appreciate their music and this can continue for many years.

I imagine they have no problem with it and probably happy that they seem so passionate about it. They might not like them using their last names though. That is a bit weird.

every one needs to do what is best for them just as long as they don't just copy others
