Good afternoon. The darkness is coming and time to put the candle lights on. Question?what is the difference between St.Nicholas and Santa Claus. Santa Claus may be named after the saint who gave gifts in secret. I know St.Nicholas was a real person.Santa Claus not? Today as I was told is St.Nicholas day. What is your thoughts on this.? Have a good evening.

My Polish friend told me that today was the day for presents, and Christmas Day is for family and food.

I will ask one of my friends they celebrate that. But here although they celebrate Santa Claus its mainly the Three Kings they celebrate for the small children and the very big Children which is on January the 6th every year. You have a good evening too.

Hi Alfredo, in my opinion the former is more for a religion and or a certain religious sect to be worshipped, respected and venerated while the latter was adopted to give a more general look and appeal that would befit the Christmas season irregardless of faith or religious sect and affiliation.

It's an interesting subject, friend. My family has got St. Nicholas for its patron. The first is a subject of religion. Santa Claus is fun and part of fairy tales world.

I haven't heard about St. Nicholas but Santa Claus is much more well-known for me. So I guess St. Nicholas has more relationship with the religion. And Santa Claus is more like a fairy tale.

That's a good explanation. We don't celebrate St Nicholas' day here but I know some countries do.
