Bob Hope Quote: Lost Luggage

Bob Hope was quite a comedian too. He always had something funny to say. This one hits a note with me, because of all the traveling I used to do.
He said: “Flying? I’ve been to almost as many places as my luggage.”
More than once, my luggage didn’t arrive with me on some of my trips. I did eventually get my luggage but it was very distressing at the time.
Once there were seven of us traveling to South Dakota. When we arrived in Rapid City, everyone else’s luggage came off the airplane, except mine.
We had rented a van to take us from Rapid City to Philip where we were to stay for a couple weeks and visit the Lakota Sioux Indian Reservation.
We didn’t want to leave the airport without my luggage.
They told us to wait for the next flight to come in and if my luggage was not on that flight, they would make arrangements to bring my luggage to me in Philip.
I was really upset. I just knew my luggage was probably lost to me.
We waited for the next flight and my luggage was on that plane, so I was quite relieved.
Has your luggage ever been lost or misdirected?

Once. The luggage missed the connection to Nice at Paris.

@JohnRoberts Oh well, at least it caught up with you. Nice trip for you, it sounds like. I have never been to France. Always have wanted to go.

Most people who travel have had lost luggage at one time or another, usually. But, most of the time it shows up. Which is a good thing.

The problem with that is you can't drive to some places. But, there is a LOT to see in the USA. I've flown thousands of miles to Europe, the Far East, to many of the Caribbean Islands and to Alaska and Hawaii and even over the North Pole and from the east coast of the U.S to the west coast and back many times.
But, now my traveling days are pretty much over. Flying is too much hassle for me. I don't go far from home anymore, but I'm glad that I had the opportunity to visit many places in the world when I was younger.

Yes, I was quite relieved when it did come on the next flight. How that happens though, I don't know.

Yes, actually before I moved to Latvia mom and we made a trip here in 1991. We had several suitcases with us and one which contained most of my stuff that I was going to wear went missing. Luckily it showed up the next day but it meant another trip to the airport.

Well, I'm glad you got it anyway. I thought I was going to be without a change of clothes too, but my luggage WAS on the next flight. Makes no sense to me.
