People Claiming to Be With Microsoft Calling

December 9, 2016 1:55pm CST
I just got a call on my house phone from some woman with and Indian accent, whos caller id name came up - Jellison M with a number 980-939-1571. She was trying to tell me that someone was trying to hack into my computer and that she was from Microsoft etc. I told her that I didn't believe her, and she says "I can prove it! Just go to your computer....." Yeah. Sorry lady, you're full of it. I just hung up, then googled that phone number. It seems that this is going around.

I have had that call so many times. I put the phone on speaker and pretend I am doing what they ask. I keep thanking them for calling to help me as my computer has been slow, etc. I keep saying I am trying to get it to boot up, etc. When I get bored, I hang up. Or I tell them I don't have a computer. lol

I'm actually considering messing with them if they call again. I'm going to tell them that my computer isn't working right now, but my grandma thinks hers is hacked, then give them the number of the police department to call my grandma to "help her".

We were getting about one a week for a while there. I finally got so fed up, I yelled into phone with my best fake-Indian accent, "Samir? Is that you? You still owe me 5000 rupees, you dog. My cousins and I are coming to your house now to collect it from your sister if you are not home." "Samir" told me his name was not "Samir," that I was crazy and hung up. Huh, me, crazy?

I have had similar calls myself and you did the right thing by hanging up. As soon as they start their little speech, I hang up.

I forgot to say that my mum got one of these calls and said she didn't have a computer and then the person went straight into a different narrative like they were actually calling about her credit card or something like that. Thank goodness my mother isn't naive but I do worry about vulnerable or elderly people getting these calls sometimes.

from computer to credit card? how sneaky. but yes, it's horrible when they manage to convince those who are unaware.

Good for you. That happened to me this late spring and summer. I'm not buying it either.

These calls are so annoying. I get them all of the time and now if I don't recognise the number I don't answer. I wish the phone company could do more to stop these calls coming through.
