Do you Have a Bird Feeder On Your Property??

The birds that we had at our very first house would eat everything that we had for dinner the night before! Okay, one thing that they wouldn't eat was bananas!! I read that they would eat more than most people knew and we gave it a try just for the fun of it. We couldn't believe that they would eat our left-over pancakes, but they loved them as much as we did. BUT THIS WAS DURING THE SUMMER!! Left-overs won't work out here in our frigid temps, but it was a fun way to attract birds to our yard!!
So, I'm now looking for a spot close to our house so that we can easily get to it and filling will be easy! There was a little chickadee looking for food yesterday... It was so tiny that it broke my heart. I wonder just how much seed we will need now that we are living in the country?? I'm pretty sure that they are going to need more than our left-overs. There are about 6 bird houses around the property... I'm not quite sure how to interpret that??
What kind of feeders do you have and what is the best kind of seed in your opinion??

Our whole garden is their bird feeder what with so many fruit trees around. We also have a bird bath for them to frolic around.

It was fun feeding birds when I lived back east but now I'm in the desert. The desert is such a fragile ecosystem that the wildlife experts publicly beg people not to feed the birds or other wildlife or everything will be out of balance. If there are more birds because they are being fed, that means more of our short-lived flowers will be eaten as well as more lizards. That would result in less food for other creatures, no pollen for bees and thus no nectar for butterflies and plants would begin to die. It's pretty serious business here! We had a crisis years ago when I first lived here when a stupid developer poisoned the wildlife around their construction site so that the tenants would not be bothered. There was an explosion of rabbits because the coyotes were so reduced and the desert was nearly destroyed. Greed is the cause of all the world's ills. Sorry to be off on a tangent. I do hope you enjoy your birds! Wish I could!

In Australia, water during our hot summers is more difficult for birds to find than food. We have two bird baths which all sorts of birds drink at. My mum used to make little patty cakes - like simple cupcakes - for her canaries and they loved them.
