Did I tell you I finally broke down and got one?
They were (not sure if they still are) running a special for the Holidays, I paid $10.00 less. I guess that's what I was waiting for, because as soon as I saw it I bit the bullet and got the kit.
It's here, but I haven't opened it. I don't want to open it and compromise anything, as I won't have time to do anything with it until Tomorrow. Though I might just wait and do it sometime Monday morning so that I can take it straight to the post office.
I'm not so sure about leaving it in the mailbox. I'll have to see how well protected the sample will be.

I already have results few years ago. According to my DNA results. I am 25 percent European, 15 percent Southeast Asian, 10 percent East Asian and 50 percent Native American. I am a total Mutt.
My dad is Peruvian and My mom is Filipino.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I actually wished I found some ancestry I didnt know. I mean Martha Stewart is a descendant of Genghis Khan and she is white. I thought I will find something hidden.

@CaptAlbertWhisker I know that I am distantly related to "sirs" of some standing, but I haven't personally done the research myself to find out how so.
It would be interesting to find out if I was related to anyone famous from history, but then you can't necessarily believe they'd be able to find such a connection either.

It definitely looks like a toy, and in a manner of speaking, it brings the same excitement as a new toy.

Wow look at that. Kinda reminds me of that show about ancestry of some certain popular people.

If yours is like the one I got from 23andMe, it's packed quite safely.
I love that we can get our DNA tested now at a compartively low cost. I discovered a couple of cousins I didn't know I had and found out that I have a slightly higher than average amount of Neanderthal component.
Also, I found out the migration route, generally speaking, that my remote ancestors took in Europe before they migrated to the North American continent.
Good luck with your DNA kit! These are great times to live in.

I have considered doing one from 23andMe in the future. You were pleased with the results you were able to get from 23andme then?

@blitzfrick That (the Native American) is one thing that I am curious about as well. I *think* my great great grandfather is supposed to have been full blooded but I can't find anything on it. Not even sure which side (whether it was my father's father or Father's mother) but hope to find out soon with this DNA test.
Health and weight as related to DNA sounds pretty interesting. Quite scientific even.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes. I don't visit the site often but they've added a couple of features lately—health and weight as related to DNA. It was a kick to find those cousins, in the beginning.
I originally signed on to determine once and for all whether I have any Native American DNA. I'd heard family stories that it was true, but wanted to test their validity.

I will let you know. I think it takes about three weeks after they receive it. There are actually around four different places that do them now.

@Mike197602 Ancestry, which is where I am getting mine done from, has a UK site.
Yes, I'll PM you when I get the results. I am assuming they'll be able to break the chain down and show me the percentiles for Irish, English, and not just lop it into "European".

@ScribbledAdNauseum ok...maybe pm me as i'm not here much but am interested in the topic.
Quite a few companies here offer ancestry dna testing but they're quite expenive.
cheapest i've seen is £299.

Well seems like you are still into ancestry thing, last time I read about knowing your father side.

Each test (as there are several different variants) tells you different things, or claims to be more indepth than others. This one supposedly gives a breakdown of your heritage (where you came from). I *believe* it might be able to do a rudimentary check and show distant cousins, but am not sure.

My daughter got one for Mother's Day this past year. She has been tracking our family history through ancestry.com for more than a year. So her mother-in-law finally bought her the DNA kit. It is so exciting to find out the truth about our heritage. There was stuff we never expected. Since then, my husband and my dad have had theirs done. What is interesting is our family has had stories of native american heritage passed down as long as we can remember. So far, DNA shows none. But we did find out we have a good bit of Irish and German. I will be doing mine and getting one for my mom next month.
