Not really. I just got extremely irritated by reading discussions written in 'text speak' and it ticks me off. So I decided to write my title that way since it seems to be 'the thing to do' and it doesn't seem to matter if people do it, even though it is against the guidelines. Sorry...I don't expect to read Hemingway or Shakespeare or anything like that...but I do expect English. But don't worry...I'm just ranting. *goes off to kick a unicorn*

I don't like "text speak" even in a text message. I can't decipher half of it. I especially hate it in an email. I can't believe how many professional people talk like that even in an email.

@Morleyhunt, Always, it really doesn't take anymore time to spell out the word.

That really shouldn't matter here since the guidelines plainly state not to use it here

There at least two generations out there now after ours and probably one or both of them do not realise that test speech is even a language (if it is indeed) of its own

Text speak is so popular. Wonder if there will soon be a class taught (for credit, of course) in high schools and community colleges.

I've ranted about the same thing! It is very irritating. When someone does that, it tells me that we are not important enough for someone to type out words.

I've seen a few today that really bug me...I know many users don't have English as a first language, and I make allowances for that, but some of this stuff...

I can't stand text speak. If this hadn't been written by you, I wouldn't have read it! How's that for a compliment?

Nice of this. (Which, of course, is another major tick-off for me.) And don't worry, I'm sure someone will get around to plagiarizing Hemingway or Shakespeare eventually... BTW, no wonder the Irish Rovers couldn't find a unicorn....you're out kicking them!

I never like text speak, even in text message. I also get irritated, whenever I received a message written in text. I hardly understand the message.
