Common Courtesy

Is it teenage anger taken out on Grandma?
Is it the clash of personalities?
Asking for common courtesy.
And getting nasty words and hostility instead.
This is just so bizarre
I merely asked for a window to be closed or that he close his door when he comes out. It's winter out after all. He insists in having his window open in his room. BRRRRRR!!!! It's 33 degrees outside.
This is what I pretty much put up with from him any time I ask him to do something. Two thirds of the time. About one third of the time he is civil.
Do you have to ask for common courtesy?

Many times he has been told that. Trouble is he is busy yelling and doesn't hear it.

@celticeagle if you wrote it down to explain how it affects your heating bill, will he understand?

I'm sorry you have to go through that. Is he not made to respect you? My children better not ever be rude to their grandparents or they will be dealing with me which they won't like at all.
I also live with someone who has no common courtesy at all...Can't wait until it's over.

He doesn't really 'respect' anyone. Having ODD he is defiant and oppositional. He has gotten better but there are times he is bad. He has been the oddest child to try to raise. Usually a child will mind me to some degree. Not him! And, his mom doesn't help the situation. She doesn't want any kind of confrontation and doesn't make him respect her so why would he respect me? Really fires me up even after all these years. Ugh!

@celticeagle that is a good idea by @jaboUK .
When my late niece was about 13, 14 I got her to write all the checks out each month to pay the bills. I used a bank ledger and put a total at the top and had her deduct the amount of each check as she wrote it. It made her realize where money goes. It turned out to be a great lesson for her. She decided to have a career that paid a lot better than mine.

Maybe you need someone else to talk to. Sometimes that helps and then we don't have to complain so much.
