I guess I wasn’t the only one who liked this song. I cannot really tell you why but I just do. The song “Tears Of a Clown” became a hit for a man named William Robinson, Jr. who became known as Smokey. Unfortunately for Smokey and The Miracles they failed to chart an actual hit. Finally on Dec. 12, 1970 this song rose up to number one on the Billboard Hot 100. This song told the tale of the lovelorn. It is interesting that this particular song made it to the top when the song that is considered to be his masterpiece “The Tracks Of My Tears” from 1965 did not have the same success. However this song did get included at number 50 on Rolling Stone magazine’s The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/tears-of-a-clown-gives-smokey-robinson-the-miracles-their-first-1-pop-hit-finally
