Boston Tea Party

United States

That happened today, December 16 in 1773. 340 or more chests of tea, valued at about One Million Dollars, were dumped overboard in Boston, Massachusetts. What surprised me is that it wasn’t the only place tea was dumped overboard or destroyed back then. It also happened later in New York City, where the tea was dumped into the Hudson River and Annapolis, Maryland, where the ship was set on fire and in Charleston, South Carolina, where it was dumped into the Cooper River. I really didn’t know about that. Did you?

I only knew about the Boston dumping. Interesting that there were three other incidents.

I read about it today and it was very informative. I doubt if very many persons realized that there were other incidents involving the destruction of all that tea.

Me too. I didn't realize there were other incidents of destroying tea. What a waste.

I did As a child I thought the harbour really was like a giant teapot with people having a literal tea party.

I'm sure that's what any child would think, until it was explained.

I know. It was a surprise to me too. Just think of all that tea being ruined.
