Radio Comedy

Many people find radio comedy hard to listen to. I find it helps pass the time on the commute home, especially when there are shows aired between 18:30 and 19:00, my typical commute time, such as BBC Radio 4's "Just A Minute", "I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue" (ISIHAC), and, alas now restricted to re-runs, "Cabin Pressure". Perhaps I am just getting old. A periodic feature of ISIHAC is the (fictitious) game, "Mornington Crescent", where players take turns navigate their way from line to line, station to station, on the London Underground (Subway) system, to the station that bears the name of the game. The rules can be somewhat complex, very often contrived, and... totally fictitious! See if you can make head or tail of one game, featuring participants Barry Cryer, Graeme Garden, Tim Brooke-Taylor and Sandi Toksvig, chaired by Jack Dee, from a 2015 episode of ISIHAC - don't say you weren't warned!
Is this the best ever Mornington Crescent? From Series 64 of ISIHAC recorded in York and hosted by Jack Dee; featuring: Barry Cryer Graeme Garden Tim Brooke-...

Lol - Jack Dee's Yorkshire quips are priceless! Thanks for the laughs. I grew up listening to the radio as we didn't have TV, and there were some brilliant ones - Goon Show, Round The Horne, Navy Lark etc.

@jaboUK When the local TV station started transmission, in B&W only, at 6pm, and local Forces radio was the only English channel available... you made do with what you got, I guess.

A classic show. I once heard a letter read out on one of those Radio 4 viewpoint-type programmes from a furious listener complaining about the treatment of Samantha on 'Clue'. The presenters decided not to enlighten her!

I believe Samantha does not receive quite as much attention as she did when Humph chaired the show... If you have not found this already, you may appreciate some of the reasons given for her early departure from some of the shows.

I love the show and especially Mornington Cresent - I won a game of it online by invoking the rules of The JK Corbomite Manouver - a Trekkie eventually twigged that I'd used a ruse used in a classic episode of Star Trek called The Corbomite Manouver - JK being James Kirk - ha!

I have been told to listen to ISIHAC but I'm never near a radio when it's on. I've always found it difficult to just listen to words and see no pictures though, because my mind tends to wander.

Therein lies the challenge... I heard part of the latest episode on my way home from work today, so Monday evening 6:30pm is a date for your calendar. And possibly a repeat around noon on Saturday, I suspect.

I enjoy radio comedy but, alas, we hardly listen to radio anymore.

That is a shame. It is available online too, both as a radio channel and as individual podcasts. As well as on YouTube...

@pgntwo The problem is that i am commuting between two places and I do not have the time. Also the radio has stop working in the car. But YouTube might be an option. I'll try it out!

We never listen to anything other than music in the car. There is enough 'funny stuff' on Facebook to last a lifetime LOL

I don't like talk radio of any kind. I just like music...tend to change stations near the end of my shift for music to mop and sweep by Told the head chef techno makes me more productive so it is now allowed in the kitchen my favourite mopping tune is this...if I connect my phone to the kitchen stereo and play this I mop fast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNOP2t9FObw

Yes, music does help with some tasks - I cannot listen to anything with sung lyrics when I am trying to concentrate on something that requires real thought - yet I can gladly listen to music from a film soundtrack, or similar, whilst accomplishing the task. I think the "auto-pilot" of driving home appreciates something to chew on, and spoken comedy does the trick.
