Dec 20, 2016 When I was a tot living on a ranch we would call SOOEY SOOEY to get the hogs to come when we "slopped" (fed) them. These days, I live in a trailer park and have transitioned to feeding birds. It's a much neater proposition and fun to watch, no calling SOOEY required. As winter came barreling in, I hung a cage of suet out for the birds. At first, those mischievous squirrels would battle with the jays over the suet, making it disappear in an afternoon. I changed the location a couple of times to discourage this squirrel activity. But then, it seemed there was no activity at all. I placed the suet so that I could see it from inside the house. I watched off and on during the day. Nothing. But yesterday the birds showed up! They were all small birds and too far away for much more of a description from me, but I was delighted! At one point three or four birds were helping themselves as a frustrated squirrel watched from a higher position on the fence. Mission accomplished! And no calling SUET SUET necessary! I wonder if squirrels are related to pigs....

It's funny the sounds we use to call farm animals. We had different sounds for the various ones too, to call them for milking or feeding or whatever. Great photo too. :)

A little story: A good friend of mine who lives and works on a farm told me yesterday that 11 of the pigs got out of their pen and he had to round them up. I asked him how he did it. He said he started up the tractor and the pigs came running! Why, I wanted to know. He told me he often carries their food to them with the tractor. When they showed up he tempted them back into their pen with some tasty tidbits. Easy peasy. LOL! And no calling, either. The photo is from Pixabay.

@blitzfrick Sometimes you need to think outside the square. He was pretty clever doing that.

I love your photo. Squirrels might be related to pigs but I call them tree rats. I like squirrels but not when they destroy your ceiling. Once, in the middle of church, a squirrel dropped out of a newly formed hole in the ceiling.

@blitzfrick It disappeared very quickly. I don't think he liked the preaching.

@akalinus The sermon probably hit too close to home for that mischievous little invader.

Oh my! Squirrels do not belong in human structures, no matter what they're thinking in their little squirrelly brains. Did that churchy squirrel wake someone up during the sermon? The photo is from Pixabay, not one of mine.

Squirrels certainly eat like pigs. Great shot of that one! I have a lot of birds coming in for suet, especially with this cold weather.

Well thanks, but it's a Pixabay photo. Squirrels not only eat like pigs, they are also camera hogs. I've taken many photos of the ones in my back yard. They will stop and pose for you, and fuss at you at the same time, so funny.

@JamesHxstatic So true, but they can be pests, as @TheHorse has noted.
