Well, would I buy a castle or a manor, if I had more than a million dollars. I mean nice castle in France that need some TLC. Still are sold $1.7000 million dollars. About the same price of a house in downtown Toronto. The big difference in it is, there is lots of room inside and out. Some are out in the middle of nowhere. There are at least 3.000 Castle in France alone. In Ireland the same amount. In Wale there is more... Apparently if it is well sealed for winter it is very heat efficient. To maintain a castle it cost between $ 15.000 to $30.000/year. Cheaper then an appartment in town where we live. Lot of going back and forth in a big place like that. Kings and queens just had to go around the corner of their property to have a good walk (I mean can end up with a long one). The same indoors, with three storage you know. In every room there is a nice fire place....and who gets to bring the wood... who goes fetch the water, (there was no running water) Go to the well darling... Can you picture yourself in that situation. Well for instense I told myself, I already pomp my own water, we carry our in (very short distance from the door) If cut. There would be lots of complaints mind you....But then you do something about it......and then..... The Chateau Chambord in France.. picture from pixabay .

No aspirations to own or live in a castle. A bungalow with a nice bit of property. Furnishing, cleaning, heating......a lot more than $30,000 a year.

@beenice2 my guess would be the $30,000 is just gas and electric....then add in the day to day maintenance, not to mention the people you would need to employ to take care of the cleaning and grounds keeping.....

Nope...I do not favor large homes...and it is easy to suspect some ghostly things out there because there can be plenty of glimpses from the corner of eyes, which can make us paranoid, and it would also be easy for thieves and don't forget the inconveniences you listed along with cleaning and getting required infrastructure. But hey, if a hotel is purchasing it...I would be willing to buy shares in it. Somebody else would be managing right? lol

Yes, not have to worry about who would do the work for sure.

@beenice2 If I had over a million dollars I would not buy either. I would donate money and invest too and buy a place where Sophie and I can live in peace and quiet in Jerusalem and make sure we cannot hear noise at all.
