Diary Tuesday 20th December 2016 The shower water felt so lovely and hot I had to steel myself to get out and get dressed for work knowing how cold it was going to be out before dawn. Work was visibly running low at the start what seemed likely to be just a three day week. We half-expected an early finish and afternoon overtime was cancelled but we got to the close of our actual shifts in the end. I did a little shopping and came home. Diary Wednesday 21st December 2016 Winter Solstice Day, the shortest day of the year, but a very active day for me. After a long struggle to find out my finishing dates for the temporary postal work met me evasive responses from management they finally told us today when our contract termination dates are, and for most staff it was today, but I was among a few invited back for one last day on Christmas Eve. We were instructed not to share this good fortune with those not invited as management didn’t want angry reactions. Work today dried up two hours early and normally this would be disappointing but I was delighted as I was invited to a photoshoot for a local newspaper to promote a Christmas stories book I am in among 15 other writers. Working later would have meant missing the shoot but now I was able to join about half the authors for the shoot and a last chance to see my friends before Christmas. We did the shoot at the café called Ham & Jam used for the writing workshops, and the café itself had copies of our book proudly on display for its customers, many of who were happily perusing our work. As with the other authors, I got my friends to sign my copy. After the meet-up I went to the cinema to see Rogue One which I loved. I’ll review it separately. Arthur Chappell

Working on Christmas Eve could be a bummer, but the extra pay is always nice. I always used to volunteer to work on Christmas because of the time and a half pay.

@teamfreak16 normal pay rate for me sadly - not overtime rates - Xmas Eve is seen as an ordinary working day here

Ham and jam. Not the most delightful-sounding of combinations. Unless maybe it's a savoury jam? I also enjoyed Rogue One. Partway through I realised I was really getting into it. CGI Tarkin was a bit wobbly on occasion though.
