Are you an aspiring writer? Do you imagine yourself as a famous writer some day? Like artists who were never able to sell one of their paintings while they were alive, are there writers who also had a difficult time selling their books?
Writers get inspiration and ideas from many sources. For instance, Ian Fleming who wrote the “James Bond” stories, was also a bird watcher. He was looking for an ordinary name for his “new spy hero.” While reading his favorite bird identification book, “Birds of the West Indies” he saw that the book was written by ornithologist James Bond. Who knew?
The Bronte sisters self-published their first book, a book of poetry, in 1847, but only sold two copies. If you are trying to publish something, take heart, there are new ways now to publish your efforts.
I finally published my first novel. I’m waiting for someone to purchase it however. I’m just happy to have gotten it published. I, myself, have purchased several copies and have gifted them to my family and friends. If nothing else, I know that I am a published novelist, whether anyone else purchases the book, or not.
Almost everyone knows that Margaret Mitchell wrote only one book, “Gone With The Wind.” But, what a book that turned out to be, when it was made into a movie. My favorite movie of all time.

They say if you write just five or six pages per week you can write a novel in less than a year.

Frankly my dear, I didn't know those facts except about GWTW. Have you visited Margaret Mitchell's home in Atlanta where she wrote the book?

No, I haven't visited her house in Atlanta. I would love to though. Her novel is one of the things that inspired me to write my first novel and I finally got it published. Compared to "Gone With The Wind" it pales into oblivion, but AT LEAST, I did get it published and I'm proud of that fact.

@IreneVincent You should go to Atlanta to see her home and grave. The library has a Mitchell display.

Yes, by all means, get back to it. It was quite amazing the moment I held my published novel in my hand.

Another One Bites the Dust by Mack Queen is a novel that... no wait that's a song. Anyway, a lot of artists suffer and struggle turning out their work. There are famous painters that turned out thousands of painting in their lifetime but only a few survived. Where did the others go?
