i hate the holidays..
it's not the day off..or seeing friends..and hell no not the food..
but it's the endless commercialism.and sappy tv shows.
sorry, peace and love one day of the year doesn't cut it for me.you should "love your fellow man" year round.
valentine stuff is already out in some places,if that tells you.
and the diamond industry? forget about it.
holiday?diamond.
birthday,anniversary?diamond.
they farted in bed?yup,diamond.maybe two.
let me sleep in the morning, don't fight with my family, and clean up after yourself.ok,that's diamond worthy.
i'd rather have a fully loaded pizza, beer and a plasma cutter.(still less than diamonds)
so i'm an odd woman.meh.

I feel the same way so I refuse to let commercialism invade my Christmas. I think of the holiday as a celebration of Jesus's birthday so all the commercials and tv shows are something that belong to others, not me. I ignore them. Luckily, I can FF through the commercials. It seems like if something is not all about money, it's not long before big business makes it so!
I did a series of articles on diamonds years ago and found that DeBeers is the business that started the campaign for engagement rings in 1938. They were not common before then, and mostly bought by the rich. Then when people started buying fewer rings they started the stupid "promise ring" campaign. Diamonds are not rare at all, their distribution is just tightly controlled. How did Western culture let one business change the way people court? Amazing and also disgusting.
I hope you have a very nice Christmas, however you celebrate or don't.

You make perfect sense to me. I hate holidays too. They make people behave so darn fake around dinner time and they all want to leave anyway after they fill up their doggy bags and say they need to be on their way cause they tired and sleepy. lol

I love all the shopping for kids. All the family get togethers. All the great food. All the Christmas music and all the sappy movies. They either do promote good will year round or they make me laugh - "A Christmas Story".
I don't know what a plasma cutter is but pizza sound like a great meal for the season too!

I know what you mean. I hate the feeling of being forced into doing an act which supposedly represents how much I love my family. I'd rather show this in my own way. Maybe this involves gift giving, maybe it doesn't but I prefer to do it when and where I want. I'm not particularly religious and none of my family are religious so Christmas is purely about indulgence, it seems.
