There is a new sound device that is about as simple as a verbal conversation you would be having if you had a microphone in front of you while taping your talking on a cassette recorder. This device is available A Device that you place at the foot of your front door, inside the house, silly, that plays a regular conversation between two people or more that will make a potential thief think twice before breaking and entering. I know of some methods besides a recording of a conversation playing at the door in side the house, and that is a barking dog. A motion detection system that uses an automated dog barking that is triggered off by any body who gets as close as the front door or even on the porch near the mail box. These are all pretty clever but there is a better way. I don't want you to spend money for this. I want you to do it yourself. Just go get an old cassette recorder or reel to reel you have up in the closet, and record a long drawn out conversation between you and a friend that you can simply put at the door so the next time a porch pirate comes up to your door to try to either break in your home or whatever, he will have to make haste getting out of there, because of your backup plan, a guy with a shot gun pointed right at their heads from the living room window and that pit bull terrier terror chained to a runner link chain along side your back fence that leads right up to the front porch. If the dog don't bite 'em or the sound of two recorded people yap yap yapping, then read the big sign on the door that reads: NEVER MIND THE DOG, BEWARE OF THE MAN WHO HAS A GUN POINTED RIGHT AT YOUR UGLY HEAD! If you can read this sign, you are way too close to my front door and it's got a 220 volt lead connected to a live circuit so if you even touch the darn door knob you will fry. Have a nice day. Another more rational solution would simply be to have a parked vehicle in your driveway and porch lights on 24/7 and have a neighbor pick up and hold your newspaper and us mail until you get back, and keep the lawn looking good. Seeing an uncut front lawn full of newspapers sends a signal that it's open house to a potential robber. Simply put, the best solutions are old school, low tech. It's a doable alternative to all the hype that's out there on this subject. But if you like high tech ways of securing your home then click the link below and look at it:

This reminded me of the movie "Home Alone" when the kid used a movie scene to scare the thieves away. But wouldn't a recorded voice be too obvious? Anyone could tell a difference between actual talking and recorded talking that is coming out of a machine.

Apparently the machine that does this is more modern and more life like than an ordinary mono cassette recorder with a unidirectional external microphone.

Long ago when I lived in a house with no grills I would leave my radio on quite loud if I had to be away for the day.
