I know who is at the door by the way they knock

I was thinking yesterday about how I know who is at the door sometimes based on how they knock. My mother knocks in a tune with 4-6 knocks that I believe she calls two bits and a haircut. My brother in law knocks very loudly and repeatedly until you answer the door. It is the most annoying thing you want to get there to answer it to see who is knocking like that. It doesn't take long to remember who is at the door when you hear that. Anyone you know that has a special knock you can identify before you open the door?

Other than Fed Ex and UPS people do not come to my door. On the other hand, I recognize footsteps.

I recognize footsteps of my children and boyfriend and his son but no one else is around enough for me to learn their footsteps.

@hereandthere lol when my sister and I were very small we would sneak out of the house and knock on the old ladys door who lived next door to us. She told us she would call the cops on us. We were probably 4 years old lol

@shaggin yep. with some of us, you hear a squeak, with the others it's bang! what annoys me are the schoolchildren that ring the doorbell by the gate then scamper.

I know what you mean! However, I now live in a locked apartment building and eveyone has to ring your phone. So, I never know who it is until they speak.

Oh I see. No chance of pretending your not at home then if you have to answer the phone to see who it is.

@shaggin True! But when I go to bed I turn my phone off and at times I have someone that rang my bell in the middle of the night but since they left no message it was probably someone who rang the wrong bell.

That makes sense people would want to call ahead and make sure you are home before driving all the way out there.

Anybody that comes here regularly has their own key, so that doesn't happen here.

That is a good idea so they can let themselves in.

That's funny. My grandkids ring the doorbell constantly until we open the door.

Kids doing it likely would not bother me but it sure can be annoying when adults do it.

I remember when we were living in the city our maid and my husband arrived almost at the same time. I felt happy when my maid knocked at the door more than when my husband rang the bell. I knew he would be there one hundred percent but that was not the case with the maid

It sounds similar to my brother in law then. I wonder what he would do if I wasn't home. Would he just stand there knocking for 5 minutes straight ha ha
