Yes, in a couple of months we are getting a new £1 coin. Apparenting the one we have at the moment is way too ease to forge ( now they tell me !). The current coin is round but the new one has got about a zillion sides ...well, maybe not that many ! This is helping to stop those nasty criminal types from making a decent copy ! Of course there are going to be problems as all shopping trolleys, phone boxes, car park ticket machines etc are going to have to be changed so that the new shape coin will fit. The old coins will be collected in by October ...so don't hoard them away !

I hadn't heard this. There will be a lot of frantic searching down the backs of sofas and taxi seats before October.

Maybe you can sell them later as antiques. Although all the old coins in my country have never becone antiques: just trash

Here in the States the government has tried several times to introduce a $1 coin to replace our $1 bill, without success. Folks here just don't want to give up their folding money.

The number of fake pound coins in circulation is supposedly really high. It's a wonder they haven't tried to introduce a new one earlier. Of course, they've only given themselves six months to get everything changed, whilst still being able to accept the old style as long as it's still legal change. Madness. When you think about it there is so much which is current pound coin friendly!

I didn't know this as I rarely look at the news anymore. It looks really nice.

I have been saving them in one of those unbreakable money boxes so I'll have to smash it open!
