My New Decade's Resolution..

. Unlike many others, I don't make any New Year's Resolution .. I make New Decade's Resolution .. because let's face it, 12 months is not giving you enough time to resolve anything, especially when it comes to relationships and planning a business that will generate enough income to support long time goals .. 2017 is starting a new decade for me .. Unlike the previous decades of my life which were mostly chaotic, a lot of planning and concentration needed, a lot of hard work, a lot of dealings with corrupt people, I know that my next ten years will be a lot more fulfilling emotionally, financially and spiritually.. However, there will be challenges physically of course as my husband and I grow older.. The good thing though is that we are financially and emotionally prepared for those challenges that are to come no matter what they are.. I started making new decades resolutions when I was in my early 20s when new year's resolutions didn't work for me.. Ten years was giving myself enough time to sort out the things that don't work and don't make sense in my life .. Every decade brought me different challenges .. all difficult ones but I focused on what I wanted when I reach 60 and beyond. I have arrived at this stage of my life, exactly where I imagined me to be .. One thing very important to keep in mind when making resolutions is to take care of the needs first before the wants.. Once the needs are met, the wants actually just happen .. It takes care of itself.. but most of all, one must have self-discipline and self-value to reach goals .. Bess .. Photo is of the new seat cover (the green one) I made in January last year to give our family room some life ..It took me 45 hours to make covers for the 1 three seaters, 1 two seaters and 2 single seaters ..It was almost as time consuming as making a wedding dress ..

You have done a great job with the seat cover. I can't remember any resolutions for a month let alone a decade. But I know what you are saying and you have done wonderfully well with your life. I hope the next decade is fulfilling and happy. You certainly have worked hard for such a future.

@JudyEv Yes you are indeed very lucky that you and vince are having the time of your life .. My husband is going to undergo a biopsy for his prostate.. We are hoping that it's only a minor infection and not cancer.. It's going to be a set back for us if it is .. We are booked to fly overseas at the beginning of Feb.. I am anxious.. He tries not to worry about it ..we can't be sure whether we stay fit and healthy to do what we want to do after retirement but we just have to face the challenge ...

@epiffanie The very best of luck with it. we have been lucky to have had some happy years together since Vince retired. Some couples aren't so lucky with one or other partner suddenly dying unexpectedly before they even get started on retirement.

New decade resolutions? That sounds more realistic. My sister also knows how to sew a seat cover and yes it is very time consuming. The new color of your seat cover is nice!

@epiffanie My sister only sew seat covers for her own sofa and would not accept orders because it is too time consuming. She is more of an embroiderer but she can also sew curtains, simple dresses for others and yes bed covers and sofa covers for her own use only.

@salonga .. yes, I thought it's more possible to achieve goals if given enough time ... Is your sister making seat covers as a business? .. a few of my customers saw my new seat covers and wanted me to make them too .. but I thought it's not worth it my time and their money .. I would have charged at least $1,000 for a set like mine .. I'm just lucky I can make them or I'd rather buy a new set than paying anyone that much for the cover... It is so time consuming..

I was hoping the green one was the newer one, as I like that one much better. Course, it does help that green is my favorite color.

Needs should really be met. Because if not, we will not be happy and satisfied with our lives.. I like the way you made the seat covers. It really fit the sofa. I also like the colors and design...

You are so rght , when making resolutions the needs has to be taken cared of first . Wants will just follow , but is never the priority . Lucky seats , because you know how to make their covers . Wow , that new green seat cover is so nice . How did it seem to fit so beautifully in that seat . Our seat covers would loosen up after it was seated by someone .

@SIMPLYD . thanks .. we were gonna buy new lounge suit for the family room but this old rattan set is still very strong and comfy so I decided to just change the covers ... the green really brightened up the room ..

Thank you Belle! .. I have 41 years of practice so it wasn't hard to make the cover .. just time consuming .. And yes indeed.. long term goals need a little bit more time than 12 months ..
