That's all... it's over

Friday 6th January finally got here and that's it A lot of fuss about nothing really I suppose It's a holiday here in Italy for Epiphany and finally the 12 days of Christmas are done with and the decorations can go back in their boxes until next time I will dismantle the tree and put it away and after almost a month my home can go back to being the way I like it Normal life and routine will be resumed until the next holiday which is over three months away - but at least then there will be no need for decorations except on the table... probably I am happy that the holidays are finally over. Am I the only one I wonder?

I find that it is not the same as the years pass. It is indeed the memories of past holidays that make them different. I am so pleased that they did give you a nice dinner

I was sad to see it comes to an end. Slowly getting back into to a normal routine.

I thrive when I have a routine and this year the holidays have worn me out more than other years. As from Monday I know what each day entails and, hopefully, there will be time for my morning walk again as I missed that these last two weeks with all the disruptions. The only sad part is that my grandson will be back at school and I will see much less of him until the knext holiday

@mysdianait yes that is sad. I had my grand daughter a lot over the holidays and I really enjoyed every minute.

Its not Friday here yet its another hour but all the children here will be so excited they will not sleep most of them as its their day for Presents and so on. Have been seeing the Parades of the Three Kings in Madrid but the best ones are the local ones as they are more authentic looking. I love it all and I don´t mind taking the Tree down or having it around its got nice soft lights on it too.

The 6th means more gifts for the children here too. It is never ending! the lights on mine are colourful too but, in order to be near a power point, I have to change the position of some of the furniture and I am just so pleased when it can all go back to how it should be once again.

@lovinangelsinstead21 No there are no celebrations involving the Three Kings but there is the tradition of La Befana - an old witch - who brings gifts for the children if they have been good and she ends the holida season.
La Befana, sometimes known as the witch of Christmas, is an age-old tradition among Italian children.

@mysdianait I know what you mean but I don´t mind it at all.Even in England I have always loved the Three Kings without knowing why as they never celebrate it now nor did they when I was small either. Hugs to the Children in Italy hope they have all the presents that they want. I was listening to a few of them today on the Television and they are so sweet. Do they have the same parades as they do here?

yes I am talking about Easter being the next holiday. I don't decorate for that but there will be a centre piece on the table if I do a meal here. It is usual for families to spend Christmas together and then split up and do their own thing for Easter so I might not have them here to eat then at all. The cat did not touch any of the balls on the tree or any of the other ornaments that were on the table and elsewhere. She really is very good and only plays with her own toys

I find anything other than my usual routine to be tiring. One month of people visiting and going out during the holidays is too much for me, especially as it is colder, and I am so pleased to get back into a routine from Monday

I have always been aware of the significance of January 6th, but very few people adhere to the date in England.

First of all, it is NOT January 6th yet. Second, how can you possibly say that you are glad the holidays are over and the house will be back to the undecorated state in which you like it?! That right there is just blasphemy!

It was almost the 6th here when I posted this and I got a head start on the following morning so that I could get on and remove the decorations immediately after breakfast - or so I thought. Instead I am here and the tree is still needing my attention I had to move my house plants to put the tree in a spot where there was an electric socket for the lights. Now I can put the plants back where they should be, in the sun, again. There will be more room for my new companion too. The tree was already up when she arrived and she has no idea that there is really a lot more room for her to play than she thinks there is

@purplealabaster She might. I haven't tried her with it yet and I think it best not to disturb her right now... as she is basking in the sun

@mysdianait Hmmm .... you threw the "house plants" in there just to win your argument, didn't you, because you know that I cannot harm my brothers and sisters? Who is your new companion? Does she perhaps like yarn?

I took my decorations down on the 28th, my mam's birthday is on the 29th and I don't like to mix special occasions We have a lot of Christmas birthdays in my family, the 24th and 29th of December, the first and fourth of January, and then of course it's mine on the tenth I find Christmas day exhausting

Gosh I thought it was a lot here but that sounds like a really tiring time indeed! I never take them down early though as it just sort of seems that it might bring bad luck or something Now I realise why you were not around here though

Too many holidays and too much food, not to mention the extra expenses, all in such a short time When I was younger it was more magical but now I am so glad when it is over!

I don't wait for them eagerly the last few years. They are not the same as I grow older and I prefer it once they are over and life is back to normal

I leave the tree up until the 6th even though I don't celebrate the epiphany. Today I put some stuff away and I am enjoying my last night of the Christmas tree lights.

I have no celebrations for Epiphany either but I fear that if I take the tree down before then, it might cause bad luck or whatever, so I prefer to wait

Mine went up on December 8th, the first of four holidays here. Too many so close together and it will be so good to have a weekend with everything back to normal again

There have been years when I have taken my tree down on Christmas day! Those were the years when my children were smaller and played with the tree a lot, or the animals did. This year wasn't bad.. the cats played with it a bit, and we lost a couple ornaments that they knocked down. I guess the big difference this year was that I didn't care. I took the tree down this past Saturday.
