Today Was The Day!

Today Was The Day! I live in a small town just south of Richmond, Virginia and I learned today from the news, that today was the day that a British naval expedition, led by Benedict Arnold, burned down the city of Richmond, Virginia in 1781. And I learned today that the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai opened on yesterday’s date in 2010. Taller buildings are being built even now. It’s difficult to imagine how tall the tallest building will be next. If you keep up with history, there is some piece of news that fits every day on the calendar in one year or another.

@JudyEv You should tell us about your adventure and post some of the photos. I would be interested in seeing them and in hearing more about your stopover.

@IreneVincent Our plane landed there so we made it into a stopover for one night. We stayed on the 17th floor of some building at an AirBnB. It was pretty amazing with some lovely things to see. I don't think I've ever posted about it but I have some nice photos.

Actually, Richmond has been burned down more than once. There are many towns named Richmond in the USA, but when a person says I live near Richmond, almost everyone knows, that means Richmond, Virginia. It's a very famous city for a lot of reasons. Mainly because of the American Civil War and the Revolutionary War with Great Britain.

It really is an amazing building. I read some about it and it is a multi-purpose building, having many different business suites as well as residential apartments, some with as many as four bedrooms. I don't know that I would want to live in a building like that. And after terrorists took down the World Trade buildings in New York, it seems like a building this tall could be a target. That is scary to even consider.

I have been to Burj Khalifa... I went to a restaurant on the 123rd floor....to be completely honest...i didn't feel any diffrent than i would have at a restaurant that might have been on ground level. I don't understand the pull people have towards tall buildings.

I had hoped that someone on mylot had been to the Burj Khalifa. I have not been there. However, I have had dinner on the 85th floor of the John Hancock building in Chicago. I sat right beside a tall window, where I could look down to Lakeside Drive and I could see the Navy Pier. I'm not afraid of heights but my friend who was with me didn't care for the view at all. I have also been to the top of the Empire State building and the Sears Tower. But, the Burj Khalifa is much taller.

I love learning things like this and sharing with others. I wish that more people on mylot would write about things like this from where they live or places that they have visited or even places that interest them. We can all learn from each other.
