I’m playing “catch-up” right now because I missed the first few days of January for posting some historical events, starting with the new year.
So, I’m going to try to catch up over the next couple days and then stay on track for the rest of the year.
January 2, according to the “Associated Press” has a LOT of historical happenings. Here are a few that I found.
I did not know that this happened so long ago. But, in 1900, Secretary of State John Hay announced an “Open Door Policy” to trade with China. I thought that was a more recent event. Hmmmm.
On January 2, 1492, while Columbus was “sailing the ocean blue,” there was something else going on in Spain. “The leader of the last Arab stronghold in Spain surrendered to Spanish forces loyal to King Ferdinand II and Queen Isabella I.”
On January 2, 1788, “Georgia became the 4th state to ratify the U.S. Constitution.”
On January 2, 1935, “Bruno Hauptmann went on trial, in Flemington, N.J. on charges of kidnapping and murdering the 20-month-old son of Charles Lindbergh. He was eventually found guilty and executed.
On January 2, 1942, Japanese forces captured the Philippine capital of Manila, during World War II.
On January 2,1983, “Annie” closed on Broadway after 2,377 performances.
What else do you know that happened on January 2?

I need to get some more recent information. I only got up into the 90s and I'm sure that there are other things that have occurred since then that would be noteworthy. I just ran out of time and wanted to get something posted.

I have enjoyed the research on this and it gives me something to write about too.
