Local nonsense

I live in a place very rich in mythology and legend which I love, it is historically significant and culturally fascinating. But it is also a little bit silly at times, for example, word has it that a beast roams on the moors killing wildlife and those who venture out alone. It has been described as a big black "cat like creature" (so, a cat) interestingly, no one has ever got a clear picture of it. Do you have any local tales or stories that surround your town whether they are true or not?

Few years ago it was a flashing news all over India about a Monkey man in Delhi (India)...who was huge, who used to jump from roof to roof of a building...many people claimed it to see it and many people reported to get injured by that creature...In the end it was termed to be nothing but a mass hysteria...

How strange! I wonder what makes people say they have seen it when it doesn't even exist. Does it just make them feel special?

There are stories of a big, black cat roaming the district round a town near us. Legend has it that it might be a panther that has escaped from a circus but as with yours there are no photos of it.

Not that I know of today, but when I was a kid I remember people talking about the "oily man". Weird name I know. He would - supposedly - break into people's houses and do bad stuff.
