If day becomes night and night becomes day?

It is just an hypothetical situation and just figment of imagination. We have days and nights and our activities are divided between day and nights. Some of the activities are reserved for night (e.g. sleeping) and some are for day. I was thinking if we are asked to swap our activities, what will happen? If we are asked to go to office during night and asked to sleep during day? I think everything will go topsy turvy. Your views on it.

Oh my! It's late morning right now . . . perhaps I should sleep on it now and think about this . I suppose once we got used to it, it wouldn't be so bad . . . but it's the transitioning that would be extremely difficult. If the transition were very gradual, it may be doable. But if we had to make such changes abruptly, it would be a complete disruption and destruction to our body clocks for sure!!!

Yes, you hit the nail in the head. Transition period for swapping activities would be most difficult and once we get over it, we may adjust to new things. In other situations also e.g. switching jobs, the most difficult phase is transition phase, once we get over it, we feel comfortable at a new place. Hope you are doing well. Have a nice day.

@much2say Sorry for the late response. I am doing fine. So you would like to continue with the existing system of day and night, no swapping of activities for you.

@dpk262006 but we wil surelyl get used to it . I worked as a call center agent for almost one year. Working time for us is at night and sleeping time during the day. After months of doing it, my body got used to it..

Would you really know the difference? I worked a night for 23 years and day was night and night was day.

It sounds really strange that you used to work during night and you did it for 23 years. Yes, I agree with you that during that period, you would have forgotten what is actual day and what is actual night. Hats off to you for working during night for so many years.

@dpk262006 Thank you, it didn't seem like 23 years, but it was, it was only when I looked back and realize the amount of time I did.

I think it will not be possible because one the first place night is supposed to be for sleeping so all people will be feeling that so they would rather go to sleep .

@SIMPLYD Yes, you are right, it will not be easier for many of us (me included) to swap our activities from day to night and vice versa.

I wrote in the beginning that it is just an imaginary situation. I know practically is it not possible. I wanted you to imagine the situation and then share your views. Some of the respondents have said that they will not face much problems in swapping their activities.

I would be destroyed if this happened at first. Then perhaps I would adjust. Either way I love the dawn breaking. I am a morning/day person for sure.

Nice to see you here. Hope you are doing well. Yes, most of us are day persons and we won't be able to adjust easily or say won't feel comfortable if our day activities are swapped with night activities.

I can understand that you cannot work during night. However, if you are going to sleep for the entire day, will you be able to sleep during night also?

Yes, you are right. Human beings are such that they could adjust themselves in any situation after a certain period of time.

There are people who are obliged to work during the night for their specific jobs (policemen, doctors in the ER, firefighters), it's a matter of getting the habit.

People who work nights or have odd shifts are already experiencing that. I've only experienced that during a jet lag. It did take some time to recover.

Yes, those who are required to work in night shifts could understand the difference between reverse process. Your jet lag would have been a temporary phase and there would not have been any problem in recovering from it.

It's not very good for your health to work night shifts for prolonged periods. It has all sorts of negative effects on hormone production and can lead to long term health issues.

Yes, you are very right that it is not conducive to work during night shifts. Our biological clock has been set in such a fashion that it needs rests during nights to keep us healthy.

It seriously will be a bad idea, specially for me . I can't sleep well in the day time, how hard i try. But there are people who work in night shifts, for them its already reverse.

Like you, for me also, it will not work and may turn out to be bad idea. I cannot sleep all day and could work all night. I love to sleep during nights. Yes, you are right that there are some industries/jobs where one is required to work during night shifts and many do it as a matter of routine and effortlessly. Have you had any occasion to work during night shift?

Right now there are lots of people who work at night and sleep during the day. I won't like it, I love the sunshine and I don't like darkness.
