Thomas Mann was a German author (1875-1955) another famous person who lived and died during my lifetime. He has been quoted many times, but I found this quote intriguing. He said: “Time has no divisions to mark its passage. There is never a thunderstorm or blare of trumpets to announce the beginning of a new month or year. Even when a new century begins, it is only we mortals who ring bells and fire-off pistols.” Scientists have figured out time to some extent, in that we are aware that about every 24 hours, we can count another day and we do. Calendars and Date books and watches and clocks are all sold to count time. We plan our work week and school days and every holiday according to the time scheduled for those things. We are well aware of time passing and getting older by the minute. Even the Bible has some things to say about time. Starting at Genesis 1:5 it says: “And God began calling the light Day but the darkness he called Night.” At Genesis 1:14 it says this: “…Let luminaries come to be in the expanse of the heavens to make a division between the day and the night and they must serve as signs and for seasons and for days and for years.” So, I think we were supposed to count time, with days and nights and seasons. What do you think?

We can't even agree on some of these divisions. Different religions go by different calendars so it all gets a bit messy.

Yes, the Jewish calendar is based on the moon (lunar) while most other calendars are based on the sun (solar.)
