#5 in my Favorite Male Cyclists series is a good one: Australian cycling legend Cadel Evans.
Cadel Evans raced bicycles professionally for 16 years, and he seemed to be pretty good at it. Starting out as a mountain biker, Cadel was the World Cup Cross Country Mountain Bike Champion in both 1998 and 1999. The Outdoor Life Network (now NBCSPORTS Network) showed a lot of mountain biking in the 90's, and when he was racing, it seemed like not a week went by without Evans winning a race on our screens.
In 2001, Cadel Evans switched over to road racing, a move he justified by winning the Tour de France in 2011 (he was runner up in 2009 and 2010.)
(Fun Fact: Evans and American Greg LeMond are the only non European's to win the Tour de France.)
Additionally, Cadel was the World Road Race Champion in 2009, and won, at various times, races such as La Flecche Wallone, the Tour of Romandie, the Tour of Austria, and the Criterium International.
Not a bad career for a mountain biker!

@teamfreak16 I've been waiting! I thought he'd have to come up sooner or later.

I have a feeling you aren't going to know the next three, either.

I would imagine mountain biking helped him. Need some strong legs to do that.

Quite a few mountain bikers of the 90's switched over to the road. In fact, #4 started as a mountain biker as well.

Yeah, unless you follow cycling, odds are that you probably wouldn't have.
