Do you have health insurance?

January 12, 2017 12:29pm CST
I don't have it, and the reason is because I don't like it. My family and I always left a good reserve of our money for these unwanted emergencies. Health plans are - ususally - often very crowded and so, sometimes lagged at times.I don't want to say that the private ones are amazing (because they don't!)... But in the end, they end up being a little better.

I used to have health insurance. It was a policy that gave me just what I needed, nothing more and nothing less. It really came in handy when I had to have an appendectomy, a cost that would have ruined me. My policy was cancelled when the Affordable Care Act (ACA) deemed my policy inadequate. All policies now have to include pregnancy and childbirth care--even if you're past menopause or you're not female. They have to include a lot of other things, too, that drive up the price. They even have to include the cost of Viagra or the equivalent. So my policy was cancelled in 2013. I was paying $275 a month with a $5,000 deductible. The new quote was $850 a month with a $10,000 deductible! I could not afford that. Now the lowest premium I can find is around $1800 a month and that's more than half my income. I would be out on the street. I have medical issues, too, that I can't address because I cannot afford the tests to diagnose them. So I live with my chest pain and occasional near-blackouts that the doctor thinks might be a heart problem because I can't get insurance. Someone like me, over 60 years of age with no real assets, needs health insurance. But unless something changes I won't get it and will probably collapse and die at home fairly soon. I just hope it's quick.

I agree about the expense of the insurance. We cannot afford to have any also. However don't think so negative. Have faith, count your blessings and tell yourself every day that you are happy to have another day to enjoy just saying @dragon54u

I have it for the moment, until the ACA gets repealed. Then I am on my own. I'm hoping to find a full-time job that will at least partially pay for insurance benefits before that happens, but I've been looking for a job like that for nearly a year.

Yes, we have the choice of health plans here in Israel. You have to check in with your card for that plan at the desk when you come to see your doctor so he can get paid. It is a decent plan. If you visit a specialist you pay something for it.

I just have the health insurance by the government rather than other big insurance companies. As I don't trust those companies very much. Of course before you pay for it, they will tell you many advantages. But if one day you want to get your insurance because you have a serious disease, then it will not be so easy. The contract is tricky.

We don't either. Health care is expensive here and insurance would eat our very last penny every month. It is hard enough to pay bill as it is.
