Words I wish would just disappear!

Hack--life hack, job hack, etc. Hacking used to mean chopping something and it was a verb. Now it's supposedly means--what? A way around something? Clearly it's a fad and I hope it fades away SOON!!! Reach out--okay, I'm not in the habit of reaching out to anyone. I call them, I text them, I write them an email or send them a card. I contact them. Saying "I'll reach out to the administrators" or whatever just sounds plain stupid. Bad actors--as in there are bad actors somewhere conspiring against the country. So Nicholas Cage or Keaneu Reeves are trying to wreck something? Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian are trying to destroy the economy? "Bad Actors" replaced the terms bad guys, evil people, conspirators, traitors and many more descriptors. So we're trying to make the bad guys sound less bad and just like incompetent jerks? Challenged--mentally challenged, physically challenged, sight challenged, etc. It's not a challenge, it's a problem. If I can't pay my rent I don't have a challenge, I have a PROBLEM!!! I wish society would quit trivializing real world problems by trying to sugar coat them with euphemisms. Hey--my final word that I'll complain about in this discussion. "Hey!" used to be a call for attention, like "Hey, watch out!". Now it's a greeting. I've started saying "What?" when someone says "hey" to me. If they are below the age of 50 they just look at me blankly. It's kind of funny, really. But very irritating to hear people in real life as well as every tv show and movie say "hey" instead of "hi" or "hello". It makes the U.S. look like a bunch of dumb, ignorant hayseeds. Do you have any words you wish would disappear from your language? I don't think these words I've mentioned will soon disappear, but I can hope.

Yes! My favorite weather forecaster in Ohio said, "Quit complaining about the snow, people, it's winter and that's what happens. If you can't stand it, move to somewhere warm". He also made fun of meteorologists that named storms, which was just coming into vogue before I moved back west. Loved that guy!

@dragon54u i love that new one-"winter storm jupiter".. maybe it's just me,but naming a storm after a god is just asking for trouble.kind of like idiots who walk on ships and say "god himself couldn't sink this boat"..if i was a god and heard that, you bet i'd sink it lol

I get a bit fed up with people who pepper their conversations with words like 'like, yeah, you know, sort of' and other stuff that means nothing. Maybe they need more time to think or something.

You know, conversations would be better if people would think before they speak. Another one is "right, yeah?" instead of just agreeing. Another one I really hate is "dude", referring to a male or female. My DIL taught my granddaughter to say "right on dude" to anything that excites her. I hope that passes quickly!

Swag,,,,,I want to murder someone whenever I hear that word. I hated mainstream American music because of that word.

I guess it comes from "swagger" which means to strut around proudly. You're supposed to feel that way when you receive "swag"? I never did understand why that word was shortened and used that way. It's pretty bad when a society loses control of even their language!

Me, too. My mom said that after it became so popular. It's like people are too lazy or too important and busy to bother saying an entire word! I hated when mom said it but kept my mouth shut and I'm glad I did.

I still wonder how that "Hey" thing came about. Another thing that annoys me is when people make "What's up" a greeting rather than a question.

Yes, they don't care "what's up", it's just a catchphrase. Kind of like people saying, "how are you?" then continuing to talk as if they hadn't asked a question!

I know there are quite a few but at present I cannot think of anyone particularly. Some of them are in this article. Take a look it might interest you.
With all due respect: strike these insincere aphorisms from your lexicon, or you'll be sorry at the end of the day. Thanks in advance!
