This is what I miss when I am away from home, having Sunday lunch with my parents.
This morning, I got the chance to leave early for the 6:30 a.m. mass. Even if I still have work online, I left it because I really want to attend mass early.
At around 8 in the morning, the mass is through and I texted my parents that I will go to the next town's market and I will buy some foods to cook for our lunch. I told them to lock our house before they leave for the 8:30 mass. My mother replied and she said okay.
I took the bus and I bought 3 tilapias, 1 bangus (milkfish), 3 slices of porkchop and a slice of chicken - leg plus thigh. My father doesn't want to eat milkfish and pork, so I bought the tilapia and chicken for him. I also bought a bundle of mustard leaves/greens.
When I got home, my parents were still here and still preparing to go to church. I put first in the fridge everything that I bought. When they got home, we had snacks and then I prepared those that I'm going to cook. I planned to grill everything but my mother wanted to have soup and told me she will cook the chicken in ginger (tinola). I told her that it's just a big slice and she said that's okay, she will just cut it into smaller pieces.
So, she cooked the chicken and I grilled the fish and pork.
At 12 noon, we had our lunch. Hmmmm Happy tummy!

Yes, I should have cooked under our mango tree but our dogs might come and get their share. Hihihi So I just cooked in our dirty kitchen. Did you put moringa leaves too or chili pepper leaves?

@brokenbee we cook tinola the original traditional way, ginger, chilli tops and unripe green papaya. I had tasted the other versions with moringga and sayote.

Good for you that your family still manage to have a lunch together because most families only have breakfast or just a dinner time together especially when everyone are busy.
Those Filipino delicacies on that photo of yours are truly delicious.

you're such a good daughter. i'm happy we have a wet market and big grocery here now. when my mother wants more choices and lower prices, they go to edsa.
it's always nice when family work as a team in the kitchen.
where is the porkchop? what do you marinate it in?
i love your photo collage.

I just sprinkled seasoned salt... I am not sure what spices were added but it really tastes good with the fish and meat.
My mother sliced the pork into smaller pieces... Hihi They are near the milkfish and some at the tail of the tilapia...
We don't have a supermarket here in my hometown so I really have to go to the wet market if I want to buy fish and meat products.

@brokenbee sometimes, i cheat; i eat some moringa leaves when mixed with mung beans . when we eat pansit (noodles), i cheat by eating the cabbage, but just a few slices only. if not for my heart ailment, i would still prefer green leafy vegetables

No, we eat them raw. We just dip the leaves in "bagoong" sauce (fermented anchovies sauce) or soy sauce with calamnsi.

@brokenbee thanks for this info. I will try it next time because some naturopathic doctors said we should always eat raw fruits and vegetables.
