My son lost his first tooth/growing up.

My son lost his first tooth yesterday, and I'm having all kinds of feelings over it. He was so excited, we didn't even know it was loose. He was eating at the table, and we were in the living room, and he comes in and tells us to look in his mouth, and his tooth was missing. He said it just fell out while he was eating, and he didn't know where the tooth went, my boyfriend found it on the floor. He informed me that the tooth fairy was going to come, and she did and left him a dollar. He was so excited to show me this morning, it was so cute. I honestly wasn't prepared for this, especially considering I didn't know it was loose. Just another sign my baby isn't a baby anymore. A lot of the time we take the firsts for granted, we forget after the first few years there are still more firsts to come. We think about the first steps, and the first words, but forget about the other firsts that come along the way. The first day of school, the first tooth, the first night in their big kid beds, the first time they say I love you, or the moment they stop calling you mommy or daddy. The first time they ride their bike without training wheels. There are so many firsts, and every time my son hits one, it's just a reminder he's growing up, and while I look forward to see the person he is going to grow up to be, I'm also clinging to him staying my baby. I want him to grow up, but that doesn't mean I don't miss the baby days or the toddler years, etc. sometimes I wish we could just put the breaks on and enjoy each moment for just a little longer. I know there are so many firsts to come, he still hasn't mastered riding his bike, his first play, his first "girlfriend", his first kiss, his first date, his first actual girlfriend, his first love, his wedding day, his first child...it's a lot to take in when I think about all of those moments, and there's all of the firsts in between those moments. My boy is such a sweet kid, and I know that the world will hurt him, and that thought hurts me, but I can't stop him from growing up and getting hurt, he has to take those steps on his own, and I just let him know I'm going to be here for him. It's funny how simply losing a tooth can make me think of all of this, but it's just one more first on a list of many firsts. He's growing up, he's getting his permanent teeth, and eventually he'll lose more, and he is going to grow up and I believe he'll be a good person. We had to take him to the ER Thursday, because he had a rash they told me it was either an allergic reaction to something or it was viral, but while there my son informed me he wants to grow up to be a doctor, because they help people, and it made me smile, of course he'll probably change his mind a million times between now and then, he already has. He has wanted to be a cook like his dad, a construction worker, a police officer, a baseball player, and now a doctor, but the one thing he has always told me he wants to be is a daddy, and I honestly believe my son is going to be a great father, he loves babies and he's sweet and caring, and as hyper as he is he's very gentle with babies, and animals. He informed me he is having 6 kids 3 boys and 3 girls. He told me that their names are going to be B (his name) junior, Junior, Dora, Diego, and Clyde, and he wasn't sure what the other name would be yet, I was laughing so hard, and he couldn't figure out. I joked that Clyde and Diego were the girls. It all just made me think about how quickly he's growing up, and despite not being ready for that, I need to get ready because it's going to happen and it's going to happen in the blink of an eye.

My daughter saved all of my grandson's baby teeth. They do grow up fast. Take lots of pictures.

I have my son's tooth put up. They grow up too fast, and I always take pictures. My son is a ham, he'll actually be crying see me go to take a picture and immediately start smiling. My son has a ton of pictures.

There are so many firsts and each one will remain in your heart. When he is grown and has kids of his own and they have firsts of their own you will be remembering his as though it were yesterday. He is a smart little guy and you are an awesome mom. Enjoy all those moments.

Thank you. I know one day I will. My mom looks at my son and she sees me and my brother, she is super close to my son and I think he does remind her of me, because I am her baby much the same way he's mine.
