KMart Going Out Of Business

My son told me Saturday that the KMart store here is going out of business. He said the one in Craig, where we used to live, is already shut down. I didn't shop there all that often but at times they did have some good deals. A couple of years ago I did wonder how they were able to stay open and now they aren't. Is a Kmart store around you closing their doors too?

I grew up with Kmart just around the corner from my parents' house, but they closed down many, many years ago. Targets and Walmarts literally took over the area . . . the next Kmart was and still is a good half hour away. Apparently it's not closing, but I did read that there would be at least 3 closures in CA, just not local to us.

Walmart made a huge change for me. It was closer to where I lived so that is where I went. @JoiletJake posted a link below if you want to read it. I was never crazy about Target. I don't know why, just wasn't.

@velvet53 We had Targets well before the Walmarts came, so it took me a while to get to used to Walmart! I know of one local Sears that closed down months ago - I guess it's the same company family as Kmart.

I don't know if we have a KMart here anymore. There used to be a couple in Green Bay. Not anymore.

@just4him It seems to be a battle of the stores out there. Some make it and some don't.

It sounds like they are going to be few and far between now.

That is interesting about Penny's. I wonder if they really are buying the Kmart's.

@velvet53 We did not lose the local KMart's that I am aware of. It is sad when businesses close. That means several people are losing their jobs as well.

Ours in upstate NY went out of business a few years ago. When i visited my sister we always went there before going camping, they had great stuff. The last visit there we bought new folding chairs for camping... I don't think they have ever been in Canada or at leas not in my area.

It is a shame that they are closing. There will be so many people out of a job.

I have only been to Kmart once, and that was enough for me. The one near me in CT closed. There is one here in Florida that is still open, I think.

I am surprised that they stayed in business as long as they did.

I've been to Kmart 2.5 years ago with my cousin before I moved. The nearest one is 15 minutes away. But I haven't heard anything but they're closing down. Just Macy's the latest.

That's sad. I seen where Sears is selling out their Craftsmen items to another company.

Unfortunately yes - our Kmart closed a couple years ago. It's too bad because I liked their shoes and store-brand jeans.
