Guess what I found?

How awesome this find . . . I was visiting the little German Deli on friday of last week and as I was paying for our coffee at the desk, right in front of me, was this product. It feels like a lifetime since I had German Noodles or otherwise called SPAETZEL. Homemade in Germany says the packaging, so I hope the proof will be in the pudding. The pack cost me about $7 which is more expensive that the ordinary Italian noodle one we get (but not made in Italy) . I have already started preparing the Goulash that will accompany the Spaetzels tonight and I hope my family enjoy it as much as I did while I was in Swakopmund. Have you ever found a foreign food that you would buy to serve at home?

Spaetzle are so easy to make at home, they are my comfort food when I do not know what to serve with stews and I am not in the mood of mashed potatoes. Fresh are so much better than those you find in the stores. Sometimes I make them as normal pasta.

@Inlemay You must never let them in the water too long, as soon as they come on top remove them. You also need to boil them in PLENTY of water.

I am sure that @WorDazza will like to know they can be eaten as normal pasta. I have tried to make them, but mine come out like a MUSH - so I am keen to see how these will work with my Goulash tonight

I never even knew there was such a thing as a noodle that was specifically German. Are they different to Italian, or even Japanese, noodles?

Absolutely - they are delicious - I would recommend it when you find a place that makes authentic German meals.

@WorDazza these noodles can be stir fried with a little olive oil (after they have been boiled) and served with any Veggie (baby marrows, butternut, carrots and aubergine grilled and served on top - mmmmmm - I think they may contain egg so not sure how that will work with a vegetarian - maybe not for a vegan

@Inlemay The problem I've found with German food is that it seems to be very heavily meat based. Doesn't really lend itself to a vegetarian lifestyle. Although maybe I've just never been to the right places!!

Yes I have, but the problem is I don't know how to cook them. I haven't tried this German noodle at all and now I just feel hungry. Let me get myself some spaghetti.

I also like buying instant foods made from other countries at the supermarket . Kimchi is one of my favorites . So, how was the German noodles or SPAETZEL?

The only foods we will buy and use at home would be from Germany and Italy. We see many foods from China and Mexico being sold here, but these would not be our choice.

I hope that you get your $7.00 's worth. Yes, we occasionally find treats from other countries that we enjoyed in our travels.
