Good morning.I was thinking way back in the forties. We had a caravan of Gypsy coming through our town. I did not know too much about them. But do remember to stay away from them. Why?they will steal you blind etc. I found them so interesting with their colorful clothing, music. They or most of them stick together. I was told to stay away from them. All the time I have not or heard anything about them. This was In Worcester,MA. Where are they today?still around. Have you ever come across this. Enjoy the wonderful Ink Spot.

@amadeo yes, they had Polaroid Cameras and snapped photos of people and charged outrageous prices. They took your picture regardless of whether you wanted them to. We were told they were pickpockets too.

I have never seen any gypsies in my 62 years but there is a lot of suspicion, superstition, and romance surrounding them. A myLotter from Romania told me they are a very persecuted group and have suffered a lot because of both prejudice and bigotry. I think that is probably why the look upon us as "marks" or so I hear.

Gypsies are often known as travellers now and there are different types, who sometimes dislike each other. We have a strong culture of travellers in the UK. Some are Irish, some British, some are Roma. If you delve into their culture and heritage it's extremely interesting, and some if their customs and attitudes are incredibly old fashioned. They're very family orientated and very protective of each other. But they do get a bad press and while some of this is deserved, some just comes from the child-stealing, lucky Heather selling, thieving myths that have followed them through history. For every illiterate scallywag whose aspirations go no deeper than joining his dad, uncle and Grandad in the family business of scrap metal and thievery, there's another traveller kid who wants to break the cycle and live a life on the straight and narrow. It can be difficult for them to do this due to it being seen as giving up on their roots and this can ostracise them from family. I have worked with a lot of traveller children over the years.
