If it is left to me to decide whether to sleep or not,I can keep awake for whole night. But if I am asked or expected to keep awake,it becomes impossible for me to resist sleep.I don't know why this happens.Would be grateful if you explain.

Maybe because you were really so sleepy from lack of sleep already , the previous days .

If so,then why I can't sleep when I try to.My friend says it is a sign of depression. He says I am restless and need rest.Don't know he is right or not.I tried to find out why this happens but failed.

@else34 Then maybe you better consult a neurologist so it can be discovered what's really bothering you .

@SIMPLYD My family doctor says it is a psychological problem. There is no psychiatrist in my town.I have to go to Mumbal in future. There I will consult a psychiatrist.

I don't have an explanation. I think it happens to all of us from time to time.

@else34 That can be really annoying. You go to bed really sleepy but then you can't go to sleep.

I can't.I have also noticed time move faster when you are having fun, and terribly slow when you are not!

Yes,that's the famous theory of relativity.Good times fly fast even before we may enjoy them.I think,I need to consult a psychiatrist.

I've never been asked to stay awake all night, I don't think my body will allow it. We were made to sleep 8+ hours a day and its your body telling you its time to rest. I can't explain why because i don't know the answer.

I am not expected to stay awake at night.Sleep keeps eluding me.I don't know what happens, but when I lie on my bed,my mind wakes up and I start reading or writing.I have no idea why it happens. One of my friends says it is because I have fallen victim to depression.

@else34 When I worked outside of the house and had real responsibilities, I too would have sleepless nights because my brain would not stop planning..so I do understand what you are saying, I did discover a fan helped me to sleep, the constant white noise of the fan worked for me. Give it a try and I hope its not depression, maybe its just work!

Well it probably happens because you do not want to over sleep and make someone upset or something like that. That is what happens to me. I tend to not hear my alarm if it is set while I am sleeping and I panic so much. I just never sleep at night anymore and it is terrible.

Thanks for responding.May be you're right.I don't want to over sleep, nor do I want to upset others. This has been happening to me for a couple of years.Sleep remains elusive till late night.Often while watching news or a TV programme I fall asleep.Lol.
