DANGEROUS SPORTS.

Years ago while watching the FIFA World Cup competition , I couldn't help but notice the numerous occasions that stretchers were needed to carry injured players off the field. I then made a vow that I would never encourage my only son to become a footballer. There are sports which do not stress the body too much - like golf for example - and others which are quite the opposite. When I think of sports which can cause much damage to the body -- soccer and boxing are two which come to mind, and there are many more. I like track and field as well as cricket. During my younger years I was invited to join a women's cricket team as a batter - an invitation which I couldn't accept. You see, I knew that I would have been more concerned about the ball hitting me rather than it making contact with my bat or the wicket. Which sports would you consider the most dangerous to one's body?

@just4him, players do not feel the risk, they just like and if met an accident it is still okay for them. They better quit, lol.

Many are certainly dangerous. Perhaps football is the most.

Indeed, there are many - but of the sports that I know I agree with your choice of football. With boxing, if the boxer is skilled enough, he can avoid being hit too much.

Our Australian Rules football is quite dangerous and players getting concussion is quite common. They do seem to be a bit more aware of the risks now.

@cacay1 I don't like watching football. It is too rough and they are so hard on each other.

I think MMA (mixed martial arts) is far more dangerous and even bloody. Volleyball would be much safer though there could be injuries sometimes due to bad falls.

@Kandae11 Beach volleyball is indeed safer than the regular volleyball on hard court.

I think sports involving horseback riding are dangerous. But then boxing which involves intentionally hurting your opponent can easily qualify as the most dangerous.

Yes, with boxing you have to either knock out or disable your opponent in some way in order to win.

Of course the first one that comes to mind is American Football. http://www.rollingstone.com/sports/bo-jackson-regrets-playing-football-w442925 I'm pretty sure American athletes will continue playing it (even though Bo Jackson and anyone else who's concerned about 'healthy children in the future' will REFUSE to let them get into it). But new research into brain-injury etc. has them all being very careful now! e.g. It used to be that--after a concussion--you could just shake your head a little, sit back for a second, take a breath-or-two, and jump right back in; now, they'll have you sidelined for WEEKS if there's even A RISK of concussion!

The footballer in that picture looks as if he could damage his neck and his spine.

Almost all sports are dangerous if the athlete are not too careful with what their doing. But risk of getting hurt with permanent bone injury is part of the sport.

I also do not like soccer and boxing they seem hitting each other, and boxing already has history of deaths due to internal brain hemorrhage. At least you did not accept that invitation.
