We are at #7 in my Favorite Female Cyclists series, and seventh belongs to the great mountain biker Juliana Furtado.
Juliana Furtado raced professionally for just six years. However, she packed a lot of success into those six years. Take a gander at her resume: U.S. National Road Champion, she won the first ever Mountain Bike World Championship, and is a three time World Cup winner. Furtado was also victorious in the debut NORBA (American) Cross Country Championship. She is in both the Mountain Bike and the United States Bicycling Halls of Fame.
Furtado raced only six years because she had contracted Lupus. But damn, what a career!
Juliana Furtado now designs Female specific mountain bikes (the Juliana) for Santa Cruz Bicycles.

Yeah, I don't know too much about it either. It's obviously bad enough that she had to retire, though.

Wow, I always think it is weird how some are so good, but end up with a short career like that. Bo Jackson and Kirby Pucket, Barry Sanders who retired early.

I know. Gale Sayers only played six seasons before he blew out his knee.
